PREFACE:
Abandoned by their maternal mother, The Blues, and forced to suck off the withering teat of R&B, the Happen-Ins were birthed unto the blistering heat of an East Austin garage with little hope or means of survival. Weathering the extreme circumstances through clever wordplay and hip shaking tomfoolery, the Happen-Ins bested fire with fire: They Played the Blues to spite their Mother, reaching far into the Devil's empty gurgling stomach to steal back peices of the downtrodden's souls. They refilled the sweet Bosom of R & B with their own heavy milk and rejoiced to watch those bountiful fruit once again sway back and forth rythmically for all to behold. They wooed lovers and made them dancers. The sweat on their skinned cooled and their muscles relaxed even as the world around them burned hot.
CHAPTER 1
Formed in early 2009 the Happen-Ins are not the mythical lovechild of the Blues and R&B but instead enthusiastic torch carriers of the sound. Comprised of former members of the Dedringers, Sean Faires and John Michael Schoepf with Lomita frontman Ricky Ray Jackson and joined later by Drummer, Falcon Valdez
its no surprise that the Happen-Ins offer up a sound that blurs the lines between classic taste and youthful filth( their look and manner certainly evoke the latter). Early mixes of their debut record punctuate this effect as they move seemlessly in and out of conventions
and taboos with each song.At once youll find them stumbling through the Stones-ish memorandum of "Just the Way It Always Was" before changing faces and suddenly strutting into the one line, one chord thumping sway of "Baby" , both tunes casting a veil of easy familiarity over your head and motion into your extremities. Before you can get comfortable, you are uprooted by the ravenous howls and swirling guitar of blues number"Closer Now" and the untuned unapologetic trash of "Die". It is evident throughout that the Happen-Ins are trying to achieve a very fundamental no gimmicks sound while recording.
" We didnt have the means or the constitution to go into the studio and tailor every song to perfection or do studio tricks until we could see the tape shine," says Vocalist/ guitar man Sean Faires "We understood the value of the moment and i think that this record translates fully into our live presentation".
As advertised a Happen-Ins performance has all the ingredients necessary to satisfy the hungriest of spectators, as they are treated to a smorgasbord of passion and energy matched only by the feast of danceable rythms and ear bending guitarwork the band puts forth.
Currently wrapping up sessions for their debut record, The Happen-Ins are worth the effort of tracking down and enjoying to the fullest.
" We want people to come see us and lose their inhibitons and dance, cuz really thats all we are trying to do, is move you"
I have some incredible shows coming up. I really hope you can make it out.
