The Happy Ending: Ablyss was formed in '06 when Chris was stationed in Omaha for the Air Force. He wanted to join/start a serious band so he posted a bunch of stuff on the internet. A friend of Sean's caught wind, they started playing/re-writing the songs Chris had brought with him from his previous life, and the rest is history. That history being many lineup changes, two name changes, a few shows and virtually zero noteworthy recordings.
That was, until now...
1. What's the point of this interview?
Chris: To fill up an otherwise boring bio section of myspace
Sean: To show you my muscles
Ryan: To decipher the meaning of life.
Eric: To tell you useless information about the band.
2. Why did you get involved in music?
Chris: Cause homework was boring
Sean: My mom's band opened up for AC/DC once, I figured if that wasn't a reason for me to start playing music, I don't know what is. Plus my parents met while playing in a band together. I was probably conceived before, during, or after a groovy jam session.
Ryan: My best friend/neighbor and I decided in 2nd grade that we wanted to somehow get famous. Music seemed to be the most exciting way to accomplish this and get some mad respect on the playground.
Eric: I didn't like sports.
3. Why The Happy Ending?
Chris: It's better than a bad one.
Sean: It's a quadruple entendre.
Ryan: Why not?
Eric: It's only a few more dollars.
4. Describe yourself in one word.
Chris: Erectus
Sean: Survivor
Ryan: Bad with numbers
Eric: Anxious
5. Favorite word.
Chris: Lisp
Sean: Totally
Ryan: Touché
Eric: Juicy
6. Stranded on an island - what album do you take with you?
Chris: Third Eye Blind - Self Titled
Sean: DJ Shadow - Preemptive Strike
Ryan: Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (Although it’s only one album, it’s two CDs…is that breaking the rules?)
Eric: Mr. Bungle - California
7. Who is the most influential band of the last 10 years and why?
Chris: Weezer. They were the one of the visionaries of modern pop/rock music.
Sean: I can't assign such an honor to a whole band, as in this case it's one man that takes the cake, and only because his counterpart left him behind. Such as The Beatles had Lennon/McCartney, so did Nirvana have a pair just as influential. Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl are the most influential musicians of the last decade, which bi-proxy means the Foo Fighters hold the title to this day.
Ryan: I’d have to go with Green Day. When Dookie was released over 15 years ago, my neighbor and I were just starting our music careers. We were debating between R&B, heavy metal, and rock…honestly. When we first heard Dookie, we were blown away, and our genre was chosen. Not only did they spark our interest, but they seemed to revive mainstream interest in punk/pop music worldwide. 15 years later, they are still playing sold out shows, selling millions of records, and getting top reviews. Very few bands from our era have this degree of staying power.
Eric: Radiohead.
8. Besides rockin’ the stage, what other job position(s) do you hold?
Chris: Air Force
Sean: Ink/Toner Salesman/Deliverer
Ryan: Pharmacist
Eric: Lab Technician
