Based in Lyttelton port, Christchurch, The Harbour Sessions is a bi-monthly event that aims to put Christchurch and New Zealand's underground, DIY singer/songwriters in the spotlight by providing a forum for performance and interaction with a receptive and appreciative audience.
The iconic Wunderbar hosts the event with its distinctive décor, picturesque backdrop, and alternative music culture providing the perfect foil for the Harbour Sessions concept.
The concept itself draws on an Anti-Folk philosophy that 4 songs is the optimum for an audience to gain an appreciation for a performer’s music without the mind starting to wander.
Following this principle, each Harbour Session will involve 4-6 solo or duo artists playing 4 songs each with a 'headlining' band or solo performer playing a full set to conclude.
The Harbour Sesssions supports anything unique and original and invites expressions of interest from any and all singer/songwriters. The goal is to promote an ongoing culture of underground music performance and to promote an awareness of local and New Zealand talent outside of commercial “mainstream” avenues.
