Influences
The Beach Boys, Bjork, Kate Bush, Can, Captain Beefheart, De La Soul, Dr. Octagon, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, King Tubby, The Kinks, Fred Lane, Stephin Merritt, The Muppets, Os Mutantes, My Bloody Valentine, Milton Nascimento's "Clube da Esquina", Neutral Milk Hotel, Prince, People Like Us, the Shangri-Las, The Swirlies, T. Rex, Tall Dwarfs, Townes Van Zandt, Bukka White, and The Zombies, to name a few of the musical variety.
We hear these a lot: Stereolab, Yo La Tengo, Apples in Stereo, and once Radiohead (?), but we figure that's because most reviewers feel that readers' musical history only goes back about 5 years at most, so who knows.
The Harvey Girls music stands as a cross between Prince Paul's production work and the songs of the Shangri-Las (that's what we're sticking with; feel free to come up with your own description).
Our latest album, Nutate, can be purchased at Circle Into Square, Starboze, or at any download site you like. Check out the videos for "Don't Go Stop," "Hey, Little Sprout!" and "Resh Day Lo" (made by the wonderful Sharon Wasden) below.
