Sounds Like
Remember the part in 'Blues Brothers' where Jake & Elwood go into that church and James Brown is preaching? It's a lot like that...only mixed with some high-energy punk rock and roll. Punk rock shall heal you, my bretheren.
"Bring the show to the show" - so sayeth Eli Rainwaters, energetic frontman of the punk-rock-and-roll powerhouse, The Haters. The Haters roots can be traced back to 2003 when the aforementioned Rainwaters started jamming in his garage with various local punk rockers. The revolving door of Haters included ex-members of local bands like The Adolescents, The Co-Dependants, El Nada and Famous Last Words. Finally the line up settled in 2007 with the dynamic quintet of Eli (vocals), Erik Shunn (bass, formerly of Smackpatsy and Rhinosaur), Dustin Hubbard (lead guitar, formerly of Rhinosaur and Mr. Whipple), Jon Cott (rhythm guitar), and the superhuman drummer Jason Samu.
The Haters sound is directly influenced by the plethora of great punk bands from Orange County, CA (Agent Orange, The Adolescents, Social D to name a few), as well as the classic UK bands (The Clash, Sham 69, Sex Pistols). Mix in some high energy rock-and-roll jet fuel (think Supersuckers, Rose Tattoo, Motorhead, Rocket From the Crypt), a healthy dose of The Misfits, and just a touch of funk/R&B (James Brown, The Gap Band, Morris Day, Cameo) and you start to get a sense of what the Haters are all about.
The Haters live show has the intensity of old school punk, but with the fanatical energy of a Southern Baptist church revival...with Eli preaching the almighty gospel of punk rock!
