"Somewhere between the White stripes and Q without U lurks Charlotte duo The Have and The Have Nots. The wedding of buzzing, angular guitar to primal wall rattling back-beat on the bands eight song debut, Vanity of Vanities sizzles, bristles and throbs like a temperamental engine, running hot and rattling violently enough to shake the grease from its axles" SHUFFLE MAGAZINE, CHRIS PARKER
"The Haves And The Have Nots - Vanity of Vanities
Pitter patter of little feet on your brain. Herked and jerked rhythms just might rock your knees out their sockets."
Kinnikinnik
"next-generation Charlotte acts offering solid proof of a burgeoning local scene – The Have and Have Nots feature Ben Henry playing guitar shards and razor wire and singing like end-times are imminent, while Jess Donahue does the Large Hadron particle collider-thing on the kit."
JOHN SCHADT-CREATIVE LOAFING
"Stylistically, it is their focus on supporting the vision of each song that sets them apart from many bands. No one piece attempts to set itself apart from the songs themselves and they communicate well with each other musically."
AMPS 11
"Henry's quirky finger-picking style, reminiscent of Captain Beefheart's best records effects a dissonant harmony into which Donahue's kit is woven seamlessly and energetically. Along with his crafty vocal which serves as another instrument as much as storyteller, the overall experience is loud, clear and playful. Henry believes that guitarists are more interesting when part of the whole instead of shredding leads that override the songs. And, he writes cool songs with only the goal of having fun in the description of the experience of a moment, though sometimes in his songs, that moment is often dark"
BROTHER WAYWARD, AMPS 11
Thanks for the add !!! I believe I accidentally deleted you during a recent enraged purge of lots of "friends"--- Sorry you were caught up in friendly fire !!!
the have and the have nots! Thanks for being a friend. Please take the time to check out the Studio's bands on our playlist. Use the links to check out the band's pages. Do what you you can for your local scene. You are the people that make the music scene happen! Tell me what you think!
It’s a rare condition, this day and age, to read any good news on the newspaper page. Love and tradition of the grand design, some people say it’s even harder to find.....everywhere you look.
The CD arrived today--excellent work--my only criticism is that there weren't more songs. Without a doubt you two are making some of the most vibrant music in Charlotte!!!
