When you think of the term 'a sense of urgency,' what comes to mind? A message that just begs and needs to be heard? Purpose-driven people? A need to connect with others at all costs? If you fit the bill for all of these qualities and look for no less than that in your hard rock music, then look no further than Florida's own - The Helvetica Effect. An electric 3-piece outfit unlike any other, The Helvetica Effect brings a sound and voice familiar, yet unfamiliar to a rock landscape that seethes and grinds on with the "same ol' noise," says frontman/guitarist/pianist Rob Perez, "I mean, we love singing about our naughty ex-girlfriends over a sleazy, chugging riff too, but that almost porn-like bluntness and overall sound gets old. There's gotta be some sensuality, some danger, some mystery in music overall. I'd like to think that's where we come in." "This is definitely something different for your earholes," agrees bassist Will McLoone, "We draw from all these eclectic influnces, filter them through a slight mainstream lens, pound our personality into each individual note, and out comes these sounds of amazingness. It's really quite astonishing." Describing it as 'astonishing' is only the tip of the iceburg. Since January of 2009, The Helvetica Effect has been wowing packed crowds and industry insiders alike with their fresh sounds, pulsing beats, and thought-provoking lyrics, documented online and on CD (albeit delivered via home recordings) on the 2009 EP, "These Blackest Skies." The sweeping bridge of '(The Day I Tried To) Save The World.' The raw emotions poured into 'Afterglow.' The borderline metal chug of 'Miss Tragic.' Astonishing, indeed. And that sound is only evolving and becoming more and more personal, brutal and, yet, palatable. In early 2010, The Helvetica Effect revealed via MySpace and Facebook what would ultimately be their best song to date - 'Liars' - and the bubbling ideas of what is currently in the works behind the closed doors of THE's Florida rehearsal space....a full-bodied, full-blooded studio album. Want a taste of more of what's cooking in THE's kitchen, aside from 'Liars?' Drummer Matt Cyrus says only this: "Come to the show. Every time. Every show is different, every song has a new piece to it, every line has a different meaning every time. The live shows have so much energy and so much power that it's definitely a totally different animal than what you hear online or on disc. We promise you'll walk away Effected." And they have many Effectees collected from those blistering live shows with THE always looking for more. A group of individuals truly acting as one, the Effectees bring a sense of extra gravity and levity all at the same time to the live performances. Some sing along, some dance, some mosh, some cry...all are Effected. All have that 'sense of urgency.' Only the words of Mr. Perez seem to sum it all up: "Not to sound pretentious, but we feel like there's a sense now that the fans that are listening want a little intelligence and a lot of soul and purpose with their rock and roll nowadays. A chance to connect with it and the people behind it. And we're gonna do our damnedest to give those people what they want. Because that's what we ask out of our music every single day. That is truly The Helvetica Effect - that connection." -
