The Hobbyists began as an east bay twosome, Antonette Goroch & Greg Turner, relentless in their veneration and pursuit of the amateur, amid a world of dreary professionalists. It was their dedication to pioneering this new cult of hobbyism--- one characterized by persistent irreverence, guy/girl harmonies, acoustic guitar, rapid mood-cycling, autoharp, craft-appreciation and the contrary action--which led them to a whole new level of quest in 2008--as they joined together with legendary rocker Billy Talbot (Crazy Horse, The Billy Talbot Band) on bass, Tommy Carns (The Billy Talbot Band, Boatclub) on melodica, accordion, lap steel and Elton Cunniffe (Chantigs, Papa Wheelie) on drums. Revolutionary in tone, ascendant in spirit, The Hobbyists anthem is one of hope, rocked out mercilessly with echoes of country, bluegrass and traditional American folk. Quit your job, subvert the grid & listen to a song now.

Yeah, I just spoke to Marc and he's organising something at this place where they do theater and stuff. I went there to see this play by "Open Mic" Mike, who you may remember. Joel and Marc did the backround music/noise for it and it was cool. It's a very intimate place, perfect for your stuff! We're looking to get some acoustic songs rehearsed by then, it would be great to play at the same venue!! Keep me posted!
Hi Antonette and Greg! I really love your new stuff (well, "new" as you recorded it a year ago, right?). Different with the drums! Love the slide! Are you coming to Barcelona this spring? Hope you do!!!
We have some new music on our space. On the regular player you can find our new demo that we are currently sending out to record companies. Also, we have posted some semi-live recordings on the boom box/cassette recorder that you can see there. Just click play and you can hear all 4 of them! Then tell us what you think!!
Well, hope to see you soon and maybe we can play together?

WATCH US GO!!! is a multimedia exhibition that humorously critiques and celebrates popular culture, escapism and the pervasive presence of surveillance in our lives.
There will be free BBQ, drinks, and a fantastic dance floor built right into the exhibition!
This is also, sadly, the last event at Oakland’s Fort Gallery.
