**Winners of the Westword Music Showcase award in the “Country / Alt-country” category.**

**Saratoga listed as one 2008’s top releases by Wildy’s World Music Blog, coming in at number 11.**

Listen to what these fine folk have to say:

"Eryn Hoerig and Kate Grigsby could stand on a Denver street corner in a blizzard and sing the menu from a hot dog stand and people would line up to listen. Their intertwining voices create harmonies that are otherworldly. Add to this one of the tightest and most talented classic country/Appalachian Folk bands between two oceans and some amazing songwriting and you have one amazing album. . .”

- Wildy's World Blog

***************

“The Hollyfelds' tunes, so ably and beautifully performed, speak to us on some deep level and almost instantly restore that credibility that I haven't seen for years.”

– Reverb / The Denver Post

***************

“. . .emotional yet accessible, with just the right touch of twang.”

–Westword

***************

“Throughout the album, the deft, soulful musicianship of all five Hollyfelds stand out, but it’s Eryn’s and Kate’s stunning harmonies that make Saratoga an utterly delightful listen. Their honeyed voices contain just enough of the whiskey and heartache that makes great country music.”

- Westword

***************

" [The Hollyfelds] have made a name for themselves. . . via hotly written alt-country tunes [and] masterful harmonizing, [Saratoga is] poetic."

- The Denver Post

***************

"The Hollyfelds have made one of the finest alt-country albums of the past 10 years. . .Saratoga is a musician’s dream. Start with the dueling vocals of Eryn Hoerig and Kate Grigsby. Their vocals wrap around one another in harmonies so tight they’ll make you want to cry, laugh out loud and jump for joy. . . [The Hollyfelds] are writing the next generation of country standards (or what should be, in a perfect world). Buy It Now!"

- Wildy's World Blog

***************

"[Saratoga is] A fine set of ragged-edged, buoyant DIY-billy, with a bouncy rock backbeat behind a mostly-acoustic band and twin gal-harmony vocals. . . Fans of Freakwater and Lone Justice will recognize kindred spirits. . . [Saratoga is] full of plenty of pleasant surprises. . . The Hollyfelds sing and play with a conviction and sincerity that's refreshing to hear."

- Slipcue.com

***************

'The Hollyfelds' boisterous set at the Meadowlark on Saturday satisfied completely. . . mining a vein of traditional country-folk that invigorated the crowd. . .led by silk-voiced singers Eryn Hoerig and Kate Grigsby, [The Hollyfelds] ran through a set of originals and covers that helped the subterranean Meadowlark feel like a summery back porch.'

- The Denver Post

***************

'Talk about sweet - take one listen to the harmonizing vocals of Eryn Hoerig and Katie Grigsby, and you will fall in love with this band.'

- The Vail Daily

***************

'I really like the harmony. . .That was phenomenal. . .I really like the song [Empress of Wyoming].'

- Hyper Nonsense no.26

***************

'. . . all-out country music . . .with. . .two stunning front women and [a] solid, swaying rhythm section. . .charming. . .Their lazy country pace and swelling two-part harmonies made crying in your beer the most natural thing to do.'

- Japan Implosion no.7

***************

'I was laying down listening to this. . . and suddenly it occurred to me 'Oh man, this is not the band I'm going to see tonight! They are halfway across the country!' and I was totally disappointed.'

- Hardcore-troubadours.com

'[They] make the Dixie Chicks look like shit.'

   About The Hollyfelds

“Holly” rhymes with ”golly.” “Felds” rhymes with “welds.”

The Hollyfelds autobiography

Once there was a grown man who lived in a closet.

Well, it wasn’t a real closet. He only used the closet as a secret entrance to his underground lair of steam tunnels where he was able to pursue his interests in math and science with no interruption from the outside world.

And he wasn’t a real man, only a character in the 80’s teen movie “Real Genius.”

What is real is that more than 20 years after the film was released, a band in Denver would name themselves after this memorable character. His name was Hollyfeld... Lazlo Hollyfeld.

Lazlo’s Denver descendants, calling themselves The Hollyfelds, departed from the musical style of the 80’s film from where they took their name, and instead went for a more traditional sound. The Hollyfelds take classic country, rock, and pop, put it in a pot, add a touch of folk and bluegrass, and baby, they got a stew going. It is music that, as Westword magazine puts it, “splits the difference between alt-country and the genre's mainstream,” and contains “just enough of the whiskey and heartache that makes great country music.”

The Hollyfelds (henceforth referred to as “we” or “our”) started with a marriage and then moved on to other instances of destiny. How we all came together is pretty boring. Husband and wife musicians...blah blah blah...met boy and girl musicians...blah blah blah...remembered poker buddy musician...bob loblaw...band formed. In May of 2006 we officially formed and quickly recorded our EP, File Under ‘H’ For Toy. Soon after we started playing shows around Colorado, mainly in the Denver area, but we also rocked Laporte pretty hard.

Then, in October of 2007 we trekked to the Ohio studio of producer Ric Hordinski to record our debut full length. Grammy nominated Hordinski, best known for his work with artists such as Over the Rhine, Victoria Williams, Robbie Fulks and David Wilcox, recorded and produced the album entitled Saratoga, which was released in Feb of 2008 to very favorable responses. Wildy’s World blog proclaimed the album to be one of the top releases of 2008, saying it was “one of the finest alt-country albums of the past 10 years. . .a musician’s dream.” Our hometown arts weekly, Westword, awarded us with the 2008 music showcase award in the “Country/ Alt-country” category, as well as enthusing: “Throughout the album, the deft, soulful musicianship of all five Hollyfelds stand out, but it’s Eryn’s and Kate’s stunning harmonies that make Saratoga an utterly delightful listen. . .”

Responses such as these led to us playing with a number of respected artists such as: The Be Good Tanyas, Split Lip Rayfield, Drag The River, The Eli Young Band, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, The Railbenders, and Bobby Bare Jr., as well as to tour dates in Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming.

In addition to a number of great shows being planned for 2009, including a tour of the Southwest, we will release our new CD on April 3. We are very excited about the new disk, a 5 song EP entitled Black Heart Blue. We recorded in Denver, returning to Brian Hunter at Mousetrap Studios, who recorded File Under ‘H’ For Toy. After recording, the tracks were mixed and mastered by Masaki (known for his work with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) in his San Francisco area studio. We are very happy with the record and can’t wait for you to hear it!

Our main goal for 2009 continues to be getting people to pronounce and spell our beautiful name correctly. Just remember...there is no “i” in "team" or in "Hollyfelds," but there ARE three “L’s”.

THANK YOU FOR CHECKING OUT THE HOLLYFELDS! WE APPRECIATE IT!
