Submorphics is Chicago-based producer and lifetime musician Greg Axelrad. Originally a duo consisting of Greg and longtime friend Ryan Lolas, late 2006 saw Greg taking full control over the project as a solo artist.
Drawing on influences such as soul, rare groove, jazz, hip hop, 70s rock, deep house and film soundtracks, Submorphics' eclectic musical DnB output has received widespread global support from artists such as Makoto, High Contrast, LTJ Bukem, Marky, Danny Byrd, Big Bud, Alix Perez, Nookie and many more.
A crowd favorite on the decks as well, Submorphics DJ schedule has increased in 2007-2008, playing coast-to-coast in the states, as well as touring in the UK and Europe. Tampa Taiko is a professional drumming duo that has performed their unique style for a vast array of audiences, performing at festivals, concert halls, schools, workshops, summer camps, corporate and VIP events. Using a collection of taiko drums made by themselves from discarded wine barrels, Tampa Taiko has developed a dynamic fusion of old and new styles of drumming, bringing a contemporary vibrance to an ancient martial artform.
Opera Mash-Up tonight will (as always) have live recordings of the whole evening. Tonite we are mashing Opera with Funk then our "Noise Encore" will be kicked off with punk (Brain Damage!!). But any of you who have been to these shows knows that we encourage musicans to come up and play and that The Famous Billy records it all.
We would LOVE LOVE LOVE some scatters (no...not poopers) to come out and scat during our funk jam session. So if you have a diddly-bop-do-whop in you, you should come out.
This Tuesday we are featuring Opera singer Rene Turner. Next Tuesday we have Miriam Leigh and the following Tuesday we have Laura Vacari. Brain Damaged promises to have at least two punk groups a night. And our crazy funk band will get you jump-jive-n-whalin.
