The Horse (as they are affectionately known) is the brainchild of former Elsewhere/Kate Miller-Heidke bass player and drummer John Turnbull and was born out of a genuine love for Elvis and a desire to play some good old fashioned country music.
John had been talking up the idea of forming a country originals outfit for years, but just never quite got around to doing so. After returning home from his second world tour playing bass for the Ten Tenors, John knew the time was right to launch The Horse, and all those tunes he'd been dreaming up on the road could finally be launched into the great unknown.
Being fully aware that necessity is the mother of invention, a gig was booked in order to give to whole process a sense of urgency, and Brisbane's newest original country music offering was born.
Long time friend and artistic collaborator of John's, Nathan Moore was instantly recruited as The Horse 'skins' man, and supplies a healthy dosage of vocal harmony.
With 2 drummers in the 1 band it became clear some serious guitar chops were in order, so enter into the picture Brisbane guitar legend Jamie Clark. Jamie brings with him an incredible guitar virtuosity, as well as a strong, rich voice and love of country equal to that of the rest of the boys. No self-respecting country outfit would be complete without a Tele locking it all into place, so John's old bandmate from his Spacejunk days Andy Hillhouse was recruited for rhythm guitar and vocal duties. Andy's been known to sing the odd sea shanty from time to time too!
The Horse You Rode In On play a mixture of country flavoured originals and throw in a few classics to help ease the pain, blending solid 4 part harmony with 2 guitars, bass and drums. They are the perfect breath of fresh musical air that you've been waiting for, and gosh darn it, they're just such nice guys to boot!
