The Hosepipe Band is an electro-acoustic ceilidh/barn dance band based in Essex. We started out in 1993 - with members from Bass Instincts and Harkeles - and, with one or two changes of personnel, have been going ever since. We play mainly for dancing - for a wide range of events: weddings, parties, public dances, festivals, clubs etc. A four- or five-piece, depending on the event, the line-up is Electric bass, Mandola, Diatonic accordeon, Hurdy-gurdy, Wind (Bagpipes, Recorders, Flute, Wind-controller, Bombarde), and Percussion.
Our repertoire is an eclectic mixture of traditional English, Scottish, Irish, French, Breton tunes and new material composed in the traditional idiom.
To date we have recorded five albums, all of which are still available in various formats:
Waltzing for Pleasure and Profit (1994); Landslide (1998); Polstead Meadow (1999); and Hell's Bells (2002) and Kettleburgh Fete (2007).
