"Alt-country and Americana’s the Hotdamns are sure to make you remember that Lucero isn’t the only group out there doing this. Whiskey-soaked male vocals are blended effortlessly with female crooning, “Vanquished” shows daring guitar noodling with superb songwriting." - Smother
"Full of the drama and majesty that recalls the best of Roy Orbison." -
Brick Weekly
"Five out of five. Get a tattoo of their name on your arm." -
the owl magazine
Channeling the classic heroes and heroines of country with a rock and roll swagger, the Hotdamns have crafted themselves into a vibrant Americana band. Their debut EP, Vanquished, was recorded by John Morand at Sound of Music (Cracker, Lucero, Sparklehorse, Jason Molina) in their hometown of Richmond, VA. The male / female vocal interplay, mingling within warm, Western harmonies is akin to early Whiskeytown or maybe even the New Pornographers, since Danielle Ahart’s vocals inspire memories of Neko Case’s best moments. It’s back porch songcraft at its finest. Now a five piece, the Hotdamns bring their sound to audiences all over the South, Midwest, and East Coast.
OTHER REVIEWS:
"Makes me want to take someone by the arm and swing them around and around. This would be a good EP to put on when you’re in the mood to sit back, drink some whiskey and maybe feel a little sorry for yourself." - Independent Clauses
"Every element is rock solid, from the spacious production to the tears-in-your-beer mood." - Jambase
"(With a) fresh country rock sound that is soft and likable – with that little extra giddy up when necessary... Ahart steals the show with her lead vocals on gentle ballads that are not as nice as they might sound..." - Plug In Music
"I’d give their ode to the great “Mr. Williams” a spin or two if it were available on my local watering hole’s juke box." - Mammoth Press
"This is a solid effort and it does what an EP is meant to do. It gives a taste of the band and leaves you wanting more." - Antimusic
