THE HOWDIES are a band from the American south.
The Howdies rehearse way out in the boonies of south Louisiana. They literally rehearse in a trailer in the woods, with a large smiling hound on the porch and a "fish welding" truck in the yard. They perform in your city.
"From the muggy depths of Louisiana come
The Howdies (a.k.a. The HowDoYouDos), toting their
particular brand of lard-and-gristle-fried
blister-stomp western swing, and many other
such hyphenated ventures! No hyphen is needed
to tell you that The Howdies first full-length
record, Made With Pure Lightning (recorded and
mixed by Mr. J. Burton), rivals their completely
raucous live show. Stand up bass, rip-roaring
guitar, thumptastic percussion and screaming
harmonica combine with three-part harmonies to
bolster a thick bunch of songs about drinking,
deadly hammers, drinking, sin, redemption and
drinking. Ready for a pleasant assault on any
folk fest's sensibilities or for teaching a lesson
in grit at the next punk house show they
encounter." --Rerum Novarum Records, Arlington, VA
"The Howdies specialize in the sounds of folk, roots and Americana, exploring the country, blues and early rock sounds of the last century.
But if you’re expecting a demure, clean-cut kind of show, these guys’ll blow your mind. The Howdies filter these sounds through a rambunctious, raunchy, no-holds-barred style that makes these traditional sounds seem as current and vital as anything you’d hear today." --The Times of Acadiana
"From the opening toe-tapper, 'Bogalusa Stomp' on through the finality expressed in 'Long Pine Box', a whoopin' good time is guaranteed for all. The bolt bursting bottle of spirit-lifting elixir pictured on the disc's cover, flanked by rusty hammer and fading wallpaper speaks volumes on the sound made within." --Cecil Doyle, Welcome To Acadiana-The Daily Meaux
"If you go by the cover of this disc, it is lightning in a bottle...If you get close enough to this disc and/or this band’s live performance, prepare to feel a jolt." --B. Bernard, Lafayette Independent Radio

" The Howdies is such great car music! I mean, you get in your car, and you think you were having a bad day, but NO, you weren't, because you have The Howdies !!" -Heather Miller 10.03.09
I just got it, not an hour ago. Going through the 4th song right now, "Can't Stop Drinkin' About You". Stu and Austin, you know what my musical tastes are and how much of a die-hard metal fan I am. Megadeth released "Endgame" yesterday and it is an amazing album! I was somewhat reluctant to press stop after listening to "Endgame" for the 5th time in a row, but I did and started up "Made with Pure Lightning". This is not music I would readily admit to listening to simply on Heavy Metal principal, but as "Bogalusa Stomp" started up, I cracked a big ol' grin. I want you to know I risk being stripped of my chainmail and spikes, but I'll say it: I'm a fan and I love this sound! Guys, you sound like ya'll stepped out from a New Orleans blues bar in a time just before Chuck Berry broke big, and I'll say it's pretty damned refreshing. This is American music at it's genuine, heartfelt, good-timin', dancin', swingin', hard-playin' roots. Ya'll done good, boys. On a side note, not sure who that is leading off "Lord, Don't Give me a Hammer", but if I didn't know better, I'd say it was Kurt Cobaine back from the dead. Not really a compliment, but take it as you will.
Whats going on fellas I see your playing in Conroe in October...MAN I will be in California that week....Shit I was excited about coming to see ya'll...We need to get you a gig with my band again.
