James Overbee and Phillip Durbin have been playing music together for well over a decade. A few years ago, they began performing together as the Hummingbirds. In the summer of 2006, they completed their self-titled first record followed by a second CD, "Hummingbirds Two," in the summer of 2007. For both releases, James and Phillip recorded in a basement studio, splitting songwriting, singing, and all instrumental duties. They have played numerous shows as an acoustic duo, but added bassist Erica Chambers and drummer Jerry Thorpe for full band electric performances in the fall of 2007. In the summer of 2008, the Hummingbirds finished recording their double CD project, "Even The Sun," featuring a wide range of songwriting styles, instrumentation, and guest appearances. In July 2009, James and Phillip completed "Cup of Metaphor," a 12-track live acoustic CD, featuring Donnie Lambert on stand-up bass and a cover of Keith Anderson's "Country Song." In October 2009, the Hummingbirds compiled and remastered a 20-track anthology CD of some of their best work between 2006 and 2009.
