The Hung Jury is a roots inspired band on Canada’s dusty highway with a unique style of original country music, equally inspired by Hank Williams and Johnny Cash as they are by Motley Crue and Motorhead. Hailing from the Windsor, Ontario - Detroit, Michigan area, the Hung Jury comes from the home of 1950’s rockabilly star Jack Scott.
Formed in 2003 by long time friends Jamie Greer (long time music scene vet of such bands as TOAST and Trailer Park Sex Cowboys) and Kelly Nicholls, the Hung Jury has recorded one album, 2003’s "Whiskey Business" and 2004’s EP "ItchyDrinkinFinger". Their track "Cactus and the Desert Rose" off of "Whiskey Business" appeared on New York label Kid Antrium’s New Songwriter Country Compilation in early 2004.
After nearly two years of The Hung Jury as an acoustic duo, The Hung Jury exploded onto the Windsor music scene as a full band in 2006, with additions Erik Myskow on bass and "Big Lou" Luke Pelotte on the drums. They have slowly become one of Windsor’s favourite live draws, with great audience response and a slew of Jury fans. They’ve recently added a lead guitar player known as C-Bass and following the unfortunate departure of Luke Pelotte, added Bradford Helner (Huladog) on drums.
Over the past year, The Hung Jury have secured some impressive opening slots with such bands as Cuff The Duke, The Creepshow, Mr. Chill & The Witnesses (the new roots band fronted by "Mr. Chill" Kelly Hoppe, formerly of Big Sugar), The Awkward Stage, Twilight Hotel, Karyn Ellis, Oldseed, Trole, and Ron Leary. They were also selected to take part in the first Harvesting The FAM Festival at the University of Windsor in January 2007. In early February 2007, The Hung Jury was featured on Sook-Yin Lee’s nationally broadcast radio program Definitely Not The Opera on CBC Radio 1.
A little bit of country, a little bit rock and roll. A whole lotta whiskey...
"Not only is their music infectious, The Hung Jury is one of the best acts you’ll ever lay your eyes on. Their alt-country sound combined with a whole lot of rock ‘n’ roll and everything in between has made this band a “must see” act." Kristen Tignanelli, Real Detroit Weekly (Dec. 11/2007)
"Their fresh and innovative style keeps you dancing in your seat. Their interesting mix of genres and vigorous personality entertained the audience throughout their set. They had great stage presence and a wide variety of music. Take the time to check these guys out. You won’t be disappointed." GigNightOnline.com (April 2007)
