The Huskies - Session 1 EP
Artist: The Huskies
Single: Session 1 EP
Label: Unsigned
Date: Out now
Rating: 5/5
Every now and again whilst I’m out and about reviewing bands, and just generally loitering round music venues, there’s a little gem of discovery to unearth - and sometimes they just happen to be giving a demo CD away. Okay, so they’re not always giving them away, but I have a knack for wangling! One such gem was when I happened across The Huskies selling their wares - the ‘Session 1’ EP. Not knowing what to expect I turned on the northern charm and offered to review said offering in exchange for a copy - and must admit am more than pleasantly surprised. With the opening few organ bars of ‘Cows Come Home,’ I was hooked. The catchy melodies are layered with a saccharine voice that grates with the soulful edge of an angry diva in the mould of Aretha Franklin in second track, ‘LMS.’ Wailing organ and chinking guitars concoct the most delightfully enticing funky jazz beats this side of the 60’s. Final track, ‘Red Tape,’ a slight at bureaucracy gone mad, has a smooth, laidback verse and groovy chorus line you can’t help but sing along to. On this evidence The Huskies are a band you could listen to forever and never tire of. I have had Session 1 on repeat for the last hour now and can’t wait for Session 2!

The Huskies; a skillfully mixed, rapidly-intoxicating cocktail of funk, soul and pop, featuring cross-rhythms, thumping synth and slap bass, funk guitar, and an outstanding performance by their lead singer, who apparently gets compared to Gwen Stefani. This was, quite simply, a treat. The band spouted confidence as they strutted their way through the sexy groove of 'Got No Time', and stomped through the low down, funky riff and duel vocals of 'Stalker', ending with the astonishing 'Goldigger'; an impeccably constructed combination of tempo shifts, raps, chants and emotional vocals. This band doesn't just get the dance-floor moving; they hold the interest of everyone in the room. They ran over time, but even the organisers didn't seem to care. A brilliant performance; good luck to them.
"Melnik City", our new album will be released very soon... There's a foretaste on our Space... Please listen to "The Great Civil War"... If you like this one, come back later for more... Thanks, Melnik

I'm good dude. I intend to put a new track up on my page maybe this week, so I'll let you know about that. It's gonna be funky in honour of the late great. Do my eyes decieve me? Are you supporting the Zutons? That's going to be sooooo good! I wish I could make it... damn the timing's bad because I've got to visit my sis in Austria with her new baby but if there's any way in hell I can get there I will! (p.s. still sad about Jacko)
hey duuuudes! congrats on winning tonight, i think you deserved it you were awesome! i was one of the osund guys from yardbirds if you dont recognise me! cheers for the cd :) i shall more than likely see you at the festival as i think were doing a stage there? haha! well done again! x
I just wanted to say that I'm so sad about Michael Jackson! Seriously depressed... I hope Johnboy's handling it ok but if he's anything like me he feels pretty fucked up right now. Jacko was such a huge influence on me since as long as I can remember. King of pop? King of funk! He had so much more to give :-( A toast to the greatest entertainer that ever lived.
RIP
