BLACKHEATH HALLS 2010
Friday 22nd January 2010
DARRELL SCOTT + Louise Latham + Still
Following the success of our Spring 2009 shows, we're delighted to announce that we'll be back at the Halls in 2010. We'll be kicking off with a special one-off show featuring the award-winning grammy nominee and Nashville legend DARRELL SCOTT on Friday 22nd January.
An outstanding singer-songwriter in his own right, Darrell has written songs for over 70 top artists, including Keb Mo, Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill and Hank Williams. He's recorded with Joan Baez, Steve Earle, Kate Rusby and Randy Travis and appeared, to rapturous acclaim, with Beth Nielsen Chapman and last summer's Cambridge Folk Festival.
He's a truly independent artist and has released six wonderful albums to date on his own label Full Light Records. One of these Theatre Of The Unheard was voted one of Rolling Stone magazines's top albums of 2003, comparing him to "...Springsteen at his best...". He's received rave reviews from across the music industry including:
“He stands head and shoulders alongside such artists as Richard Thompson, Albert Lee, and Eric Clapton.” Green Man Review
“It is in concert that one truly discovers that Darrell Scott is one monstrous musician…. this is music that should be heard everywhere.” Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange
“…an astonishing vocal range…His guitar prowess is equally impressive; with an arsenal of impeccable acoustic techniques and an electric guitar that is downright incendiary.” Acoustic Guitar Magazine
“one word – genius.” Gritz Magazine
His music covers a broad spectrum of country, blues and folk and his seemingly limitless talent both as a songwriter and a performer make him a genuinely distinctive and creative force in contemporary music.
Supporting acts
Supporting Darrell will be Louise Latham and Still, two of the many outstanding acts that have appeared at our weekly shows at the Station.
The Blackheath Halls dates in April, May and June were a fabulous success. One of the many highlights was the very wonderful BENNY GALLAGHER, who headlined our third and final show, performing "Would The Last One Leaving New York Town Please Turn The Lights Down". Benny is of course one half of the legendary duo Gallagher & Lyle and was previously a member of McGuinness Flint. He’s been one of the UK’s foremost singer/songwriters for the best part of four decades and his live performances continue to delight audiences wherever he plays. We're thrilled that Benny has agreed to return to headline our 21st May show.
The video was shot by Henry D.C. Williams, an excellent independent film maker from SE London who has taken a bit of a shine to the Icarus Club ! We're delighted that, when he's not working on documentaries, features and music vids, he comes and films the acts at the weekly shows at the Station Hotel as well as the ones he shot at Blackheath. For more of his work, go to his Youtube Channel, and his website, http://www.hdcw.co.uk.
Keep checking the blog section for video highlights of our weekly shows at the Station Hotel.
The Icarus Club is a place for high-quality, original songwriters and composers to perform their work in a conducive acoustic setting. It happens every Thursday at the Station Hotel in Hither Green, south-east London.
We exist solely to promote, encourage and generally enthuse about singer/songwriters and instrumentalists, providing them with a space for their music to be heard whether they be seasoned veterans trying out new material, newcomers just starting out, and all points in between ! Our shows consist of 5 or 6 acts each playing for around 25 minutes split into two halves of around 10-15 minutes each.
We'll be featuring/reviewing all the acts that appear at the Icarus on here - we won't judge as we leave it to you to make up your own mind, but we might pass the odd comment here and there ! Keep checking back regularly for updates to our featured songs section, reviews and news.
If you'd like to perform, or if you'd like to find out more, e-mail us at icarusclub@hotmail.co.uk.

BLACKHEATH CONCERT HALLS
