By way of Middletown , Connecticut , the next preeminent producer/songwriter/engineer from Atlanta is The Ill Genius. Having been involved in music for most of his life, The Ill Genius is now laying down award-winning tracks that are catching the attention of everyone from the staunchest hip-hop heads, to the smoothest R&B and pop balladeers, to the bona-fide rock stars. As a songwriter, The Ill Genius has been able to compete with some of the Industry’s best songwriters. His song, So Long, was selected as one of the 16 final songs out of over 200 original songs submitted to the Georgia Music Industry Association’s Best of Urban Music Songwriter’s Showcase and Awards Show in 2002. Also as a songwriter, The Ill Genius ballad, Can’t Let Go, won 1st Place on American Idol Underground in 2006. 2nd Place in the same American Idol Underground contest went to The Ill Genius produced song, Monkey Roll (The ILL Mix). In 2008, the Southern Entertainment Awards R&B Album of the Year, Get Closer, was produced and written by The Ill Genius. As an engineer, The Ill Genius has engineered music for various artists including some signed to, or affiliated with, Cash Money Records such as Chopper, Gotti, and others.
