This video was inspired by the book of poetry "The Scarlet Ibis" by Susan Hahn and created from elements of each of the book's 34 poems performed in the stage production by the same name: directed by Ann Filmer, video Kristin Reeves, music Barry Bennett, at the 16th Street Theater this year.
The Impending Behavior Orchestra is a modular sound / light/ movement performance group based in Chicago led by musician/composer/sound designer Barry Bennett along with video artist, Kristin Reeves.
IBO is modular in the sense that it can manifest itself in many forms and purposes. As few as two or as many as 10 collaborators. IBO can manifest as a concert in a club, an interactive piece of dance theater, a component of a full theatrical production, full on frenzy or as still as a gallery installation.
IBO is interested in the impulse of the artist and how it makes them behave in the ritual of live performance. Does the idiosyncratic impulse of the artist/musician/dancer create the vision / behavior, or does the behavior create the idiosyncrasies? Chicken or Egg? Symbiosis?
IBO believes in improvisation.
IBO believes in chaos and synchronicity walking hand in hand.

ABOUT BARRY BENNETT:
Barry grew up in Mountain. Home, AR. He spent his time wrestling and listening to OZZY. His mother, Helen, heard various states of rock and or roll coming from her garage for many years, and never complained at the lack of Floyd Cramer songs.
Since coming to Chicagoland in 1993, Barry has had his theatre and dance scores heard as far away as Salzburg and as near as the seat in which you are sitting. This group of folks would include Chicago Dramatists, The Aardvark, Steppenwolf, The Art Institute, Emerald City, National Pastime, Cindy Brandle Dance Company, PROP THTR, Chicago Moving Company, Estrogen Fest, Writers' Theatre, Asimina Chremos, NEXT Dance, Heartz & Bonies, Flush Puppy, Blackbird, Terrapin Theatre, and others.
By day Barry is a modern dance accompanist. He has been Composer in Residence for the Chicago Moving Company for the past 8 years; for whom he has created music for numerous out reach programs. He was the founder of the art rock ensemble, MiLkBabY which released 5 albums between 1997 and 2008. He first incarnated the shifting music/movement/image group, The Impending Behavior Orchestra, in 2006; though, 2008 marks the birth of IBO into regular activity.
Barry is also the drummer for the Balkan Rock group, BOMBBONE (http://bombbone.com); and the Czech rock outfit, THE C.I.A. in addition to performing regularly with a wide array of groups in various capacities in the Chicago area.
Barry now makes his home in Berwyn with his neato theatre director wife, Ann Filmer, and their lovely daughter Hannah. Barry has no interest in Adulthood. Barry is the luckiest boy in the world.

ABOUT KRISTIN REEVES, AKA THE REEVES MACHINE:
My first machine, a red swing set, was fed a diet of worms, flower pedals, and doll parts. Giving direction on my tiptoes and staring into its dark top, I desired to see a new universe. There was a faith my mud would turn into landscape and creatures unnamed. Today I am the reeves*_*machine, multimedia artist building with blocks of time and space. My process creates moments and their meaning is sensation.
I use structures of nonfiction to explain the forms of my work; a novel equals a movie, a song in round equals a looping multi-channeled installation, a still equals a word... I recently decided to produce video haiku using a structure paralleling that of the western adaptation. Three lines containing a total of 17 syllables equal a western haiku. Japanese haiku was developed as 17 symbols, the duration of a complete breath, an 'exhalation of soul', as R.H. Blyth explains within his critical writings. .
My research has taken me beyond structure to reveal philosophy, aesthetic, and rules of engagement reflecting what I want from my work regardless of duration or form. Haiku expresses sensation; an awareness of the human condition without explanation nor excuse. My work reflects experiences of holding my breath and of laughter.
I have shown solo video and 2D works across the US, produced the video scores for the Chicago production of Patty Red Pants and 16th Street's , THE SCARLET IBIS. My involvement playing video as instrument in the art rock ensemble MiLkBabY has led me to formation of The Impending Behavior Orchestra. I'm living happily in Chicago with my husband, Charlie Pond, and my very old cat.

Actually, you are mistaken that I had a point to make. I relaly didn't. I really don't have a point. What I was doing is informing because I found it interesting and it is something that many people dont think or know about. Everything that happens must happen and acceptance of reality is the only way to happiness. Then again, reality is the present and every material or nonmaterial being has the capasity to change reality. Anyways, I can go on and on about nothing and emptiness and the difference between those two so I'll just stop.
