Conceived as a "just for fun" side project by founding members Stubhy Pandav and Ramzi Hassan, The Insecurities have quickly become one of the most exciting up and coming bands in the Chicago area. The band knew they had stumbled upon something worth pursuing when they headlined and sold out their first show during MOBfest at Chicago's Elbo Room in the summer of 2008. Later that same year, they put out their debut EP Ban the Kiss Hello: A Social Commentary to much fanfare. With a collection of tracks ranging from rock to rockabilly to americana to pop, Ban the Kiss Hello had a little bit of something for everybody.
The Illinois Entertainer wrote, "The Insecurities‘ debut EP, Ban The Kiss Hello: A Social Commentary, has more letters in its title than minutes on its six songs. Each track name contains a philosophical subtitle, a hint of the brainy lyrics contained within. Musically, the quintet gels effortlessly. The piano-infused pop underneath the honest vocals clearly calls to mind shades of Jack’s Mannequin, which is a great vein to settle in and should make the group feel a little more secure about its musical future."
The Insecurities continued to play shows through the rest of 2008 and landed their first show at the legendary House of Blues Chicago in January of 2009. 2009 proved to be a year of firsts as the band played their first shows at Metro (Chicago), the Rave (Milwaukee) and Double Door (Chicago). All the while, the guys were hard at work crafting a new collection of songs for their follow-up to 2008's Ban the Kiss Hello. In June of 2009, The Insecurities were invited through local alternative station Q101 (WKQX Chicago) to open the station's Block Party 2009 with 311 and Ziggy Marley at Charter One Pavilion on the beautiful lakefront. In July, the band shared the stage with Tonic at Chicago's Taste of Lincoln Avenue Festival.
August saw The Insecurities head back into the studio at Gallery of Carpet in Villa Park, IL. Choosing to take a more organic approach on their new record, the band recorded in true analog style. The end result was a solid collection of seven brand new songs that were sent off to be mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London. Deciding that it was time to show the world what they were made of, the band fittingly named their sophomore effort Show Your Teeth. The new record released on October 13th of 2009 and has been received extremely well, nabbing 5 out of 5 stars on Apple's iTunes.
Says Windy City Rock about Show Your Teeth: "With another batch of strong material, Show Your Teeth finds The Insecurities avoiding a simple retread of their debut - opting for a bigger, bolder approach - without discarding the elements that made Ban the Kiss Hello a success." www.windycityrock.net
The Onion said, "[People] won't be able to argue with the group's pop sensibilities...nor will they be able to hold still while listening."
After completing their new record, The Insecurities closed August by playing one of the featured concerts in New Lenox's Summer Triple Play concert series with Blues Traveler.
The band also began performing with their current line-up of Stubhy Pandav (vocals, guitar), Ramzi Hassan (guitar, vocals), Brian Sherman (guitar, vocals), Chris Orebaugh (keys), Jiggles (bass) and Mike Ford (drums) in the fall of 2009.
Since the release of their new album, Show Your Teeth, The Insecurities have been hard at work marketing and promoting through social networking sites and other mediums. Their song "Run Run Baby" debuted on Q101 (WKQX Chicago) and sees regular play during the Local 101 segment. Another song from Show Your Teeth, "Bonnie vs Clyde (Mister Mister)," has been added to regular "A" rotation on North Central College Radio 89.1 (WONC Naperville). The band was also featured on WGN-TV's Midday News where they performed songs from the new album.
The Insecurities continue to play shows around the midwest in support of Show Your Teeth, and the band has high hopes for 2010.
