R.I.P The Interns (1999 - 2006)

April 3rd, 2006

Hello Everyone,

I know its been quite a while since we have put out any sort of proper update. We hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season, New Years, and Spring Break for those in school.

It really depresses me to write this, but as of May 13th 2006, after three vans, hundreds of shows, and a handful of tours, The Interns will call it quits.

During our six years in existence I have read my fair share of break up statements some short and brutally honest, others longwinded, and overly sentimental. I hope I can strike a happy medium between the two.

This past fall, the three of us, for a variety of reasons, were forced to sit down and re-evaluate our positions in life, our priorities, and where we were headed both as individuals and as a band. Having found what we then believed to be common ground, we were again forced to re-evaluate our situation when Mike accepted a full time job, making any future touring, or even completing our full length in Arizona relatively impossible. After quite a bit of discussion, we collectively decided that any course of action we could possibly take would be a step back rather than a step forward. Rather than limping around Northeast Ohio for rest of the foreseeable future, we have decided to cut our loses and call it quits. While this is certainly not the way we would have liked things to work out, sometimes the ball is in someone else court, so to speak. Unfortunately, the record we began working on with Jamie Woolford, will never be completed. At this point, we have every intention of making the material we recorded this past spring available for download either via the Nice Guy Records site, or Itunes.

On a slightly happier note, we will be playing a handful of final shows in cities that have been particularly kind to us over the years. Hopefully well see a few familiar faces at these shows. The dates and cities can be found below:

Saturday April 22nd
West Liberty State University - West Liberty, WV
S.R. 88, West Liberty, WV 26074,
Free - With: The Distorted Penguins

Saturday April 29th
Topcats Cincinnati, Ohio
2820 Vine Street, Cincinnati, OH 45219
With: Bottom Line, Break Away

Saturday May 13th
The Grog Shop - Cleveland Heights, Ohio
2785 Euclid Heights Blvd.
With: TBA
LAST SHOW EVER

I feel at this point, that I could fill the next ten pages giving the proper Thank Yous to those who have helped us over the past six years. For the sake of keeping this relatively concise I will spare everyone from having to read the name of every individual who has provided us with a show, a floor to sleep on, a hot meal, or words of encouragement. Please know that you mean more to us than we could ever put into words and that none of this could have been possible without you.

That not withstanding, there are several people we will forever be greatly indebted to. Thank you Jamie Woolford and Pete Drivere for not only making us much better musicians, but also molding us into a band we all collectively felt comfortable being a part of. Thank you, Jamie Mandel for your guidance, wisdom, and generally making being in a band much easier.

Thank you for the memories guys.

Bio:

"We arent trying to reinvent the wheel. We are just playing the music we love the best we possibly can," states Interns bassist Tony Hartman. Since their inception in February of 1999, The Interns have matured and evolved into one of Cleveland, Ohio's prominent rock groups, logging tens of thousands of touring miles, performing for two consecutive years on the Vans Warped Tour and establishing a very reputable local and regional fan base. That is quite a list of accomplishments for a group of twenty-somethings hailing from a town with one traffic light.

The self-titled CD EP The Interns successfully combines loud rock with true pop sensibilities. Recommended for fans of Jimmy Eat World, The Get Up Kids and The Replacements, the disc is power pop perfection.

"If one good song is all the pretext a record company needs to put a band on radio and TV, the Interns have more than enough to make it. If there's another American Pie movie, they can play the role of New Found Glory, and "No Leg to Stand On" would work nicely in a montage -- maybe one of the gang fixing up a freshly divorced Jim's new apartment." (Cleveland Scene)

"Orange and Gray" has the kind of crescendos that Dashboard Confessional's made popular, and "Driven" is an earnest rock number as revved up as anything by Jimmie Eat World. Produced by Pete Drivere and recorded at Youngstown's Ampreon Recorder Studios, the album sounds like it could be a major-label offering." (Cleveland Free Times)

The Interns musical progression can be credited to their active tour schedule. Having played 100 plus dates per year for the past two years, The Interns have been fortunate to share the stage with the likes of Taking Back Sunday, The Ataris, Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack, Mae, The Plain White T's, Homegrown, The Lawrence Arms and Brand New among many others.

At just under 20 minutes running time, The Interns debut offering is a great introduction to a band that is sure to make some noise in the indie music world. Originally self-released in June 2004 and now re-released by Nice Guy Records.

So the band that began is finally at an end:( Can't wait for your last show, it should be a good one. hell, i remember the first ones. hell even the first practices. you all had some sweet ass equipment, i think you even borrowed a shitty guitar I had gotten from some hill jack, that we traded for a deer my pops hit on the road. ha, you guys are fun man, im glad we all got to hang out (and still hang out) and come together as much as we did. quite the memories.

way to be, i must say! you all drove past all the adversity that a band could get past, right down to squatter mohawk dummies at the mantis. quite the progress as well, though I must say that the "SHAWN OHL" song will probably always be my favorite. that shit should have been played on the radio in '99, when shawn was in his prime.

take care guys, and i will see you soon enough. W
p.s. you should definatly get us on that show, we won't disappoint you. interns 06 baby!
