Upon meeting in Telford’s Warehouse open mic in 2002, drummer Benny Malone and Guitarist/Vocalist David Burton immediately knew they were a pairing uniquely suited to provide the world with the particular brand of jazz, folk and acoustic rock (which had always been known as Frazz, except no-one had realised it yet) that it had been missing out on previously.
Co-conspirators to this famously covert mission were recruited in the form of Cath Bryan vocalist and patissiere extraordinaire (providing harmonies as tasty as her cupcakes). Following several changes of 4 and 5 string personnel, completing the line up comes Birmingham’s own Luke Moore who’s frighteningly fortitudinous fretwork on the bass and cello gave the band the band a solid bottom that would hold firm under the inevitable gravity that was about to ensue.
These tireless proponents of this soon to be ubiquitous genre plied their craft on stages and studios the length and breadth of the country appearing amongst other from London’s 12 Bar sharing a stage with the late great Eric Roche to playing Manchester’s The Late Room, Liverpool’s Zanzibar, Winsford’s Debees and The Chester Fringe and Food Festivals. In between they appeared on BBC Greater Manchester Radio, and Cheshire FM attracting rave reviews from all concerned. To date they have made two releases their debut album “Along for the Ride” and a collection of their best live performances entitled “Live ‘06”.
The band are currently working on new material for their forthcoming second album and are looking forward to more exciting live performances with the new line up.
The Invisible Wires Featuring Duffy
In 2004 David met Aimee Duffy, again at a Telford’s Warehouse open mic. Blown away by her vocal talent David asked Aimee if she would like to do some recording together and so they started a mini project that involved a number of studio recordings featuring various members of The Invisible Wires and live performances at Alexander’s Jazz Theatre in Chester. These took place throughout the Summer of 2004 during her first (and only) year at Chester University, shortly before she moved to London and began her project with Bernard Butler which would catapult her to the big time. One of the tracks recorded during this period “I Wish I Was a Single Girl Again” can be listened to here on The Invisible Wires’ MySpace.
