The music of James Ryan is a mystic journey into the moods of blues, rock and jazz.
James Ryan was born in Surrey, England and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He returned to the grit of Canvey Island on the Thames where an introduction to the local rock and blues bands of the area led to a fascination with guitar-based music.
In 1997, James collaborated with some of the best musicians in the UK to record his first album 'Ghost of the Wind'. The album was released independently and is a blend of styles, deriving roots in blues and Latin rhythms. This highly original album is concluded by the haunting Beach Blues - a charged atmospheric song beautifully produced by Steve Smith, one of the UK's finest keyboard musicians. James reflects "it was one of those weird moments when, we recorded some keyboards and guitar on the first take, looked up at each other and knew it was done!"
'Ghost of the wind' received radio and TV exposure internationally and caught the imagination of TV producers who used tracks as backing for television features. A documentary 'Wild Spirits' was filmed about James Ryan and distributed on Sky television shortly after the album release. The album was supported by live performances in the UK with some notable acoustic performances on radio.
James is now focussed on the new album!
