Formed at the start of 2003, The Jam Restart consist of Mark Stelfox, Michael Greatbanks and Wayne Rogers.
In December of 2005 Stuart Reid who had been with the band since the start decided to leave and spend more time with his family and his business. After many gruelling hours of auditions and rehearsals a replacement drummer was finally chosen. Wayne Rogers was brought on board and has comfortably fitted in with the rest of the group.
Mark, who takes on the role of Paul Weller, is a lifelong musician and mod. He has played guitar since his early teens after a six year spell as a childhood drummer with a Keith Moon fixation.
In April 2000, Mark met Mike whilst out watching bands in the local area. Realising that they had much in common musically, they formed an acoustic duo playing a mixture of covers and original material. The covers played were mainly mod influenced, and the similarity between Mark's voice and that of Paul Weller was duly noted on several occasions. It was on this basis that the decision to form a tribute to The Jam was made.
Mike, equally at home on the guitar and bass, chose to fill the shoes of Bruce Foxton. The time spent gigging with Mark in the acoustic duo allowed the vocal harmonies to develop, and the musicianship to really click into place.
Mark met Stuart, the Rick Buckler of the band, in 1988, and played in several original bands with him over the following few years. After a long period of working abroad and effectively giving up drumming, Stuart returned home and was convinced by Mark that his considerable talent should not go to waste.
He agreed to join Mark and Mike, and rehearsals got under way in earnest. The addition, on a part time basis, of a keyboard player by the name of Chris Butler, allowed the band to develop a reportoir far beyond the musical constraints of a three piece, and consequently play some of The Jam's most complex songs.
The first gig was played eight months later in August at a scooter rally in Rochdale. Fantastic feedback was received by the band, and it proved to be the start that they needed.
It was in November of the same year that The Jam Restart next took to the stage at the Pennine Lounge in their home town of Oldham. With a capacity of over 400, it was deemed quite a gamble, but the gig sold out two weeks before the event. It was hailed by many as the best night Oldham had seen for years, and since then, the band have been selling out venues wherever they have played.
The aim of The Jam Restart is to recreate the true live experience of The Jam...so far, The Jam Restart are hitting the target.
