Grateful Dead meets Weather Report and the Motown sound
The Jam Society was formed in early 2007 when two young musicians, drummer Amir Edwards and guitarist Ari Teitel met bassist Tony Lannen at Club Bart in Ferndale, Michigan. It was obvious to both Amir and Ari that Tony was destined to be their bassist. That winter, Ari was offered to play solo acoustic at the Motown Winter Blast, but he felt that he could not play the show alone, so he invited Amir and Tony to back him up. The band preformed under the moniker "The Ari Teitel Band" for their first two shows. They then agreed on a new name for the band, THE JAM SOCIETY. The band started receiving opportunities to play shows right off the bat. The band played at the Campus Martius Lunchtime Concert Series and at Chrysler Arts Beats & Eats. Meanwhile, Tony, Ari, and Amir agreed that something was missing to the band. Jimmy listed on Craigslist.com that he was interested in forming a band. Ari's father emailed him and asked for a demo recording. Jimmy sent the band a recording of himself playing "What'd I say" and the band members agreed that Jimmy was suited for the band. Jimmy joined the band for his debut performance on September 19th to open up for Cathy Diva Davis. Two days later, The Jam Society went on to take on three other bands at Novi battle of the bands where they one the battle. The Jam Society is continuing their playing and is looking for even more opportunities.
In June 08', Tony Lannen announced that he would be departing the band for personal reasons. Tony will always be remembered as a member of the band and his charm stays with them on stage. Mason Cormie immediately joined with his first show being the Birmingham Battle of the Bands. His funky style makes a great addition to the band.
Mason, Ari, Jimmy, and Amir collaborate ideas to write music. Mason comes from a jazz/funk background, Amir comes from a gospel background, and Ari and Jimmy come from a rock/blues background. put those together and you get the jam society.
The Jam Society's proudest moments include the Motown Winter Blast, Chrysler Arts Beats and Eats, and winning both the Birmingham and Novi Battle of the Bands.
Hope to see you at a show soon, and encourage friends to friend our myspace!
Yeah, I'll tell you when shows are. I've already told a few of my friends about you guys (the ones that didn't go to the show), and I'm sure they'd like you. I guess the biggest problem that there would be is the fact that almost no one respects this kinda music much anymore, which blows. I'll let you know anyway though, when shows are. How far are you from Novi?
SICK. You guys gotta play more shows around here if you weren't planning on it. We've basically only got one active band that sounds good playing shows. Another would be nice.
very nice, you kicked ass at the Battle of the bands.. Although im not sick of appello like that one dude said.. =] have fun with the 500$ split between, you earned it.
