Influences
This can be a tough one for us. We have such a wide varity of influences in the band. None of us are easy to nail down to just one or two styles of music, we all draw influences from everwhere. But for The J. Factor, we try to funnel things into the "Blues and Classic Rock" format. It seems to give eveyone the room they need to express themselves. I (JR) look to Jamey, and Todd for a lot of musicial direction in terms of this format, because it's a style of music I've just recently opened all the way up to here in recent years. Don't get me wrong, I've played some of this stuff over and over for years but most of the Skynyrd and like minded southern rock is a new reach for me. Todd and Jamey on the other hand, have cut their teeth on this stuff since childhood. As for me though,... I bring more of a progressive-metal background to the table, which is crazy in a blues band I know. Let's just say two things... First off, don't let the "average joe" image fool you, we can play our face's off. Beings that no one will take us seriously until after they hear us play. This drives me out of my mind..."oh, nooow you want to be our friends..." Second, we're the most in your face Blues and Classic Rock Band you'll ever hear on a "unsigned" level, we're not for the faint at heart. We're the kind of band you see in you're local club and say to yourself "where in the world did these guys come from? I didn't know this area had music like this around..." Comment's like these have become the norm for us. We hear it all the time.
Now don't get me wrong, we don't think we're the best band out there, we just think everyone should be on this playing level. As I always says, "What you gun'a bring!?!?"
Sounds Like
Well, if you put Steve Via/Jimmy Page on guitar, John Paul Jones/John Entwistle on bass, Robert Plant/Paul Stanley/Greg Allman on Vocals, and Mike Portnoy/John Bonham on drums then made them play blues and classic rock. Well then you'd have a pretty cool band...lol. I'd like to see that myself... But, those are the kind of influences that stand out in us. Just ask our fans...
