Sounds Like
bluesy jazz, jazzy blues, funked up swing, swung funk - purples, deep turquoise greens and cool blues shot through with hard red strokes.
The John Hardaker Direction is a jazz-blues combo from Sydney, Australia. Built around the jazz-blues guitar and arrangements of John Hardaker, and the distinctive jazz flute of Crystal Moloney, the group was formed in January 2007.
A veteran of the Sydney scene, John has been playing jazz, blues and soul all his life. He has brought them all together in his new group, The John Hardaker Direction.
Over the last two years the music has evolved into a very soulful brew of blues-tinged jazz-funk reminiscent of Herbie Mann, Yuseff Lateef, Kenny Burrell and Larry Coryell.
The JHD likes to keep one foot rooted firmly in the past while the other kicks a little at the envelope.
"bossa never never" - lotsa drums
"prickly pear" - lotsa horns; the JHD at the cat & fiddle
thelonious monk's "blue monk" - more blues
"all blues" - 14pc JHD form the last :kind of kind of blue/miles davis tribute" show
"silent night, holy night" - a cool yule christmas carol

DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell.
