The Band that Made Mediocrity Famous
"......somewhere between Roots Rock, Alt-Country and Indie-Pop" -
....a completely different band live than recorded
The songs on the site are older than the current lineup. The Johns went from mediocre to phenomenal in a short time. Proving again that, when the right people get together, it can change things for the better, even if they have no idea what they are changing.
Come out to a show and see for yourself
The Original K Street Johns
The Johns play all-original Southern-Alternative-Country-Rock music in Austin, Texas since 2001.
It started with an ad in The Chronicle. The first night they jammed the lyrics and music came together so naturally and immediately the band was inevitable. They just needed a name.
The K Street Johns came from a story about a stree in a town called Rock Springs, Wyoming. Ever since the 1800s that little town in the middle nowhere has been terroized every weekend by every cowboy and ranch-hand in the surrounding 200 mile radius. Where did they go to have a good time? K street. It was filled with nothing but drinking and gambling saloons and brothels. As you might imagine, there was plenty of other crime and corruption to be had. So to this day the rough, young, runaways, outlaws, drifters piled into pickups on payday and hit K Street lookin for a good time. Those cowboys worked worked hard and played hard and must have been crazy to do what they do, but they loved it.
And thats probably the best description of The Johns.
