Ian Carey was born in south-east London. At the age of 15 he took up the mandolin and has been playing it almost exclusively ever since. His musical experiences range from playing with The George Orloff Balalaika Ensemble in the 70s to a current position with Royal Liberty Morris. In between he has played on and off with Gordon Jackson.
In addition to mandolin Ian plays mandriola and tenor mandola and has just acquired a sitar. He is now wondering what to do with it.
Gordon A Jackson is also from south-east London. Also, like Ian, he started playing mandolin at 15. However, he also experimented with other instruments before returning to mandolin. Apart from occasional appearances with Ian Carey Gordon played mostly with friends, concentrating on his career in further education where he sometimes teaches music theory.
Gordon plays octave mandola, low whistle, mandolin, mandocello, bouzouki and cuatro de Puerto Rico.
Sam Sloan was born in Accrington, Lancashire to Irish parents. With both her mother and paternal grandmother accordion players it's not surprising Sam also took up the instrument, and has been playing since she was four. As a teenager she won several All-Britain titles in accordion and melodeon and was runner-up several times in the World Championships on melodeon. She has played in several ceili bands and is a committed session player. Sam teaches Irish Traditional Music through the East London branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann.
Sam has just won the melodeon title at the All Britain Fleadh Cheoil 2009.
Sam plays button accordion, keyboards, whistle, melodeon, concertina, fiddle, flute, mouth organ, harp and guitar.
