Superdrag, Nada Surf, GBV, Hüsker Dü, Matthew Sweet, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, The Posies, Radiohead, Teenage Fanclub, The Pixies, The Reivers
Patrick Finn (Flowerpot) said to Dallas Peavy (Iomen) something along the lines of "And the Posies were big for me as well," to which young Dallas responded something like, "Auer or Stringfellow?" The foundations for a band were laid. Finn brought rock experience acquired in multiple rock outfits in Houston and Austin, TX, and exposed drummer Peavy to a plethora of seminal bands such as the Replacements, Hüsker Dü, XTC, and the Church, while Peavy, with perhaps other, more esoteric and obscure indie rock leanings, expounded upon bands such as Nada Surf, Guided By Voices, and Elvis Costello.
Sir Dennis McGrew, McGrew through and through, formerly of the dynamic rock jam outfit Superbus, soon revealed himself to be no mere GBV fan, but a former GBV-cover band member, so it just made sense for him to complete the ultimate rock lineup with his Pixies and New Pornographers taste fitting in nicely.
The indie grit-pop trio took off with a score of original material. Some songs lie around in the realm of the aforementioned groups. Others take a slightly slanted and curious turn, more like Radiohead and the Pixies at break-neck speed.
In the end it comes down to what we like to call melodic grit-pop. It's good rock with swirling guitars, intriguing bass lines, three-part vocal harmonies, solid rock drums... All await discovery at the jonesplan show.
Currently there exists an EP recorded in 2008, the year the trio joined forces with Walk To Run Records. New recordings lie right around the corner....
Oh, and, as indicated by the photo below, there is a direct line on the live white tiger. Look away at your own peril and he will maul you.
well..don't think that the idea of flying to NYC to see my beloved posies hasn't crossed my mind. I'm still in love with Jon and sad he's married (j/k..no really..maybe a little). However, I just graduated college and haven't scored a job so there are just no funds available :(
