Heroes
One problem with this world is we keep waiting for "heroes" to come save us. We need to get off our butts and do it ourselves.
That being said, I admire people who make great sacrifices, or take great risks, in the interest of great causes:
The first woman to serve in the Congress of the United States, Jeannette Rankin represented the state of Montana for two nonconsecutive terms (1917–1919 and 1940–1942).Rankin opposed the declaration of war against Germany during World War I (1914–1918) and was the only congressional member to vote against war with Japan after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. Rankin also championed feminist causes, performed social work, and at the age of 87, led a 5000-woman march on Capitol Hill in 1968 to protest the Vietnam War.
