The Jumpoff! is a band that began forming in the fall of 2006. We play funk, soul and R n’ B. Four of the seven members currently attend Berklee College of Music, and all of the band currently lives and works in Boston. The Jumpoff! band members come from a variety of musical backgrounds.
Drummer Ryan Dryburgh grew up in D.C. playing ska and reggae and is the oldest member of the band. Like many Berklee-trained drummers, Ryan has an immovable pocket and a mastery of many styles.
Guitarist Trevor Bahnson hails from Santa Fe where he played Blues and Metal. Trevor is the spiritual master of the group and has been known to cure headaches through his recreation of whale calls on his guitar.
Dominic Davis , our Bassist, is a trained vibes player but joined our band with a mission to improve his bass playing and gain a new perspective on the musical world. His less-is- more approach to the bass is reminiscent of players such as Anthony Jackson and Rhonda Smith.
From the beginning The Jumpoff! has tried to cultivate a horn-driven, RnB sound. We have the luxury of playing with two terrific horn players.
Eric Moore a.k.a. Slick Rick the Ruler on the Tenor sax is a veritable force of steamy soul. He keeps it inside the box and has a full round tone that is perfect for sultry soloing, terse Motown riffs, and beefy growls. Rick is a full time studio engineer and plays with many up and coming Boston bands.
Blake Hillard on trumpet comes from a family of Big Band brass players. He likes to fly high and fast and is the youngest member of the ensemble. Blake has the honor of playing in one of the elite Berklee ensembles, a “Tower of Power” cover band that has gained recognition worldwide.
The Jumpoff! plays half covers and half originals. The chief song writer of the group is guitarist Nate Staub . Nate has a love of old time roots music, Reggae, 70’s funk and jazz. All these styles can be heard in his original compositions. He combines these sounds with a colloquial lyricism that is often sarcastic.
Lead singer and Keyboardist Duncan Pelletier from Peterborough N.H. is an underground New England Legend. He has recorded and released many albums in his long career and has shared the stage with many washed-up 90's rock bands and underground hip-hop gurus. Duncan is the musical director of The Jumpoff! and arranges many of the original tunes.
Just remember to hydrate, cuz you're gonna lose a lot of fluids. Say word, son!
Nice show! Had tons of fun and it was super awesome to finally meet you guys. Dalin says a ton of good stuff about you guys. Hope to hear you guys play again soon :)
Lay me in your cut is definitely the jump off, it makes me wanna put on my love shoes and go to a halfway house in wailing city so I can dance till I get it back or till I realize how tight my pocket is and then get laid in my cut for some heavy healing until I understand the things I cannot know...did I leave anything out?
i think we all know wat it feels like to be laid in our cuts...i know i do. this is a fuckin hit if ive ever heard one.....dont ever stop doing shit like this
This is the place you should try and play. Only thing I could find is a craigslist ad. But have someone at Berklee ask about it! I heard that it is going to be a pretty cool spot to play. And Berklee has a contract with them... The Beehive- South End
From the folks at Pho Republique, The Beehive, an underground bohemian bistro and bar with live jazz, is opening in the historic Cyclorama Building in the South End in April. They are seeking to staff all positions for this 400 plus capacity restaurant with a team of positive thinking, motivated, personable, honest and hospitable professionals.
Sous Chefs and Cooks needed to open the most exciting new restaurant in Boston.
well, I see you took note of my original comment and followed it to a T. I am honored to be in the top friends of such master funkateers as yourselves. Have a good break boys (and girl). Funk 'em if you got 'em!!!
