Hailing from various parts of Los Angeles, these five friends came together on a mission to bring positive vibes, lift spirits, and speak the truth with their music. JUSTICE LEEG, consisting of 5 MC’s – Benny Cassette, Iodine, J-Bird, Mathai, and Ray Loo, combine their unique rhyming styles to form a conscientious yet progressive brand of hip hop.
What sets this group apart from many hip hop groups is JL’s ability to speak on social topics such as war, religion and violence in their songs, as well as to switch styles and create fun party anthems. Their eclectic sound of soul, funk and rock, along with their foundation in good old-fashioned hip-hop, is reminiscent and evocative of groups such as Jurassic 5 and the Roots.
JL has independently released two albums, the first, Traveling Men, released in 1998, and their follow up, Shinyprettyghettoblaster, released in March 2004. Both these albums exemplify a blend of infectious hip hop grooves and beats with a laid back West Coast vibe.
