"To experience the work of Kate Becker is to be brought into a world of rhythm soul and raw emotion. Her music reflects the influences of jazz, blues and world music beautifully woven together to produce a vocal performance that is warm, passionate and very compelling"
Nanette Natal -Jazz Vocalist
Kate Becker was born in San Francisco to a Swiss mother and New Yorker father and raised between Bern, Switzerland and New York City. A couple of years ago she settled in Tucson, Arizona, a tranquil, desert town with a thriving art and music scene.
Although her first love was dance, from a very early age Ms. Becker was exposed to Jazz and Blues. Her mother worked for the Jazz Festival Bern, which enabled Kate to meet and listen to many Great Jazz Artists such as Ella, Dizzy, Miles, Carmen McRae, Diane Reeves and many more. In her early twenties, after living in Honduras for a couple years, she returned to New York City, where she spent her time in jazz clubs and studying with renowned Jazz Vocalist, Nanette Natal (www.benyomusic.com). During her five-year course of study she started writing her own material, found her sound and started performing.
From 1999 – 2001 Kate Becker hosted, produced and performed in an ongoing bi-weekly show at Collective: Unconscious on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where she invited an eclectic bouquet of artists from Poets to Jazz, Country and Blues musicians, to perform on the same bill with her. She also performed at events and parties throughout New York, as well as in France and Switzerland.
From 1997 – 2002 Kate Becker did sales and marketing for Benyo Music productions, an independent Jazz Label, where she assisted in the production of Nanette Natal’s album Is Love Enough.
In search of a small artists town, with less pressures, Kate moved to Tucson in 2003, where she started collaborating with the dynamic Gerald Massoud on upright bass. Together they wrote and produced Kate's debut album entitled "The Kate Becker Project", a rich and exciting blend of sultry jazz, poetry, blues, soul and speak-easy style cabaret.
You can find The Kate Becker Project performing around Tucson in clubs such as The Hut, Plush or Hotel Congress, or in neighboring towns such as Bisbee or Phoenix. She is currently working on a new album of funk and old style R&B to be released on Old Bisbee Records in the fall of 2009.
Here's hoping you won't be missing the party!

Thanks for the ad. Yep, that's the song I was referring to. I thought Damon said Edith Piaf when I asked about what song that was. You're probably familiar with Edith Piaf, though. You mentioned Nina Hagen as an influence. I have a cd of hers called "The Very Best of...". It has her covers of White Punks on Dope and Spirit in the Sky. Ttyl...
Kate, We appreciate you visiting our site and being our friend. Have a good St. Patrick's Day. Attached are pictures of Black Angel present and past band members and performers. The top picture shows Black Angel at The Roxy Theater in Los Angeles playing to a sold out show in July a few years ago. The picture shows (L-R) Tomeka Haywood; me; Audrey (Mrs. Ike) Turner; and Ronnie Turner (son of Ike and Tina Turner). The bottom picture shows Tiffany Lowe, granddaughter of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash (and daughter of country singer, Carlene Carter, and British singer, Nick Lowe, who recorded with us on our latest album, "O' San Francisco", which will be released next month). Best wishes.
