Influences
"Some events are stamped into one's consciousness to remain there forever. For me seeing The Kells play live for the first time was one such event. I watched three musicians... appear on stage and commence to play and weave their magic. Magic it certainly was - music that flowed on an ethereal and cerebral plane driven by some kind of celestial energy. It tripped the dancers feet into action, but it also went beyond and rested in some secret interior place. It was spirited music, Celtic music for mind and body and somewhere else in between. It was to quote Van Morrison 'inarticulate speech of the heart'. --- John O'Regan of Irish Music Magazine, Ireland
Sounds Like
Hardcore Irish Trad!
"This is one of the most talented groups of musicians to hit the Celtic Music Scene. Their spectacular performances never fail to stun the audience. Influenced by their extensive backgrounds from Folk and Traditional Irish, to Hard Rock, they create a sound which has a uniquely creative twist to an otherwise familiar tune, as well as original tunes that hit the soul like a long lost friend. This band will take the Celtic Scene by storm with their fast paced, high energy sound, that grabs the interest of music lovers of all types. --- Pat Byrne, Byrnes Pub, Dublin Irish Fest Committee Member

The Kells play primarily what is called Traditional Irish Music. This is in essence the “soul music” of the Irish race. With a genuine passion and a sincere sense of purpose the Kells pour their hearts into playing lively jigs, spirited reels and haunting airs with songs that reach deep into the moral and emotional part of human nature. Instruments such as the uilleann pipes, tin whistle and flute provide the brilliant melodies, while the guitar and bodhran drum provide intricate layering, heart-beat and drive. Together, when played by the Kells, it produces the inspired and mighty sound called “Hardcore Irish Trad.” It is music for all ages – and for the ages.
To The Kells, playing music for others to enjoy is neither burden nor chore – it is rather a blessing and a privilege. This authentic gratitude is evident in the delivery of the music and the camaraderie shared by the band and its audience.
Music by The Kells is appropriate for intimate gatherings, raucous events and everything in between. The Kells have played nationally and often at major Irish festivals, concert halls, church and community festivals, folk festivals, ceilis, conventions, weddings, receptions, pubs, special fund-raising events, and private parties. It is practically a band for all occasions.
