Sounds Like
Kelly Doze...but I'm told that I have a hint of these artists in my sound as well:
Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Joss Stone, Mariah Carey, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Malford Milligan, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Anita Baker, Fiona Apple, India Arie, Bonnie Rait, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Whitney Houston and Toni Braxton.
Kelly Doze has sung professionally in Texas for the past seven years. You might recognize her name through the cover band circuit, where she once started. She played in a couple bands in Austin, Soul Masquerade and The Grooves.
Doze eventually migrated to the singer/songwriter genre. She teamed up with close friend and well-known Texas artist, Malford Milligan to produce her first album, Self-Titled. They began to plant her roots in Texas as a Blues/Rock/Pop artist. Her second album, Define Me, is more a compilation of previous work, which mirrors her versatile, vocal style. The album consists of soul/pop/and a touch of Americana. She co-produced this album along with her drummer and well-known Texas producer, John Moore.
Her latest projects are progressing toward Soul/Pop/R&B with a touch of HipHop. She has worked with various artists such as: Terell Shahid, James Kinney, Zeale, D-Madness, D.O.S. Suele and now Ray Prim of Primm and Tim Dyer. Ray, Tim and Kelly have started a new band called Venus is Falling. This project is a collaboration, for the most part. They're infusing three different sounds with one root soul.
Doze is also in the the midst of creating her third album/EP, due out soon. This project will no doubt portray the ultimate vision Kelly has had in mind. So be on the lookout for what is to come, Austin and the rest of the world!!!
