Kelly J. is in the studio right now working on her third CD, and the “buzz” from insiders is pointing in a new, exciting direction. Kelly J. Has chosen producer and arranger, Phil “Fang” Volk, whose extensive background in music and unique vision is creating a signature sound that her fans have never heard from her before. Part of the reason the chemistry and new direction seem to be working so well is the fact that Phil “Fang” Volk comes from a different musical era and genre than Kelly J. With over forty years in the music business, Fang is best known as the original bassist and singer for the legendary rock band of the 60’s and 70’s Paul Revere and the Raiders. This unusual merger of diverse talent is working magic in the studio.
Phil “Fang” Volk’s four decades of musical experience along side of some of the greatest recording artists of our time promises to bring an intense and passionate energy to Kelly J.”s project. As a musician, singer, songwriter, composer, arranger and producer, Fang brings new meaning to the term “thinking outside the box”. The creative energy between Fang and Kelly J. promises to bring something brand new to the table that the country music world has yet to hear. Stay tuned. Eight songs are in the “can” and the album is projected to be finished by mid-summer. With Fang’s famous background and Kelly J.’s vocal genius, a truly new and provocative sound has emerged that country fans will stop and notice.
Strong, powerful and untapped are a few of the adjectives used to describe country artist Kelly J. Growing up, she listened to and is influenced by not only female greats like Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, Patsy Cline and Patsy Montana, but Merle Haggard, George Strait, Kenny Rogers, Hoyt Axton, and Johnny Cash as well. "I like singing guy songs because they are different and it gives the song a completely different perspective when you hear a female artist performing it," said Kelly J. Combine the vocal prowess of Martina McBride and the conviction of Wynonna Judd along with the All-American sex appeal of Faith Hill and you get a powerful performance from 25-year old fireball Kelly J.
Born and raised in Longmont, Colorado located at the foot of the majestic Rocky Mountains, Kelly J. is a huge outdoor enthusiast-hiking and racing jet skis in the summer and snowskiing in the winter are a few of the hobbies she participates in when not on the road. Kelly J. performed in school choirs and dabbled in school plays. It was after graduation and a dare from a friend that led her to enter a contest at the famed "Grizzly Rose" in Denver where she floored the audience in a "Star Searchesque" talent contest. Kelly J. walked away hooked by the rush and applause she received by entertaining the crowd.
After singing with numerous bands and at the prompting of several club owners she decided to start her own five-piece band. They have been traveling over the past four years playing private parties, fairs and festivals, clubs and casino lounges building a loyal fan base and delivering an incredible performance throughout the Mid and Southwest. In addition to performing with her band Kelly J. has had the honor of singing our National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas, numerous rodeos & fairs, The Colorado Rockies & The Colorado Mammoth. Kelly J. has completed her first CD "A Little Bit Of Both", which has achieved excellent reviews. Her first single, "If We're Letting Go" has received air-time on many radio stations throughout the mid-west.
Kelly J. has opened for numerous stars and is on a collision course with destiny to become one herself.
