Where can it be? That one song that will change it all? The song that The Kevin Costners are so feverishly looking for? Well, nobody knows. And that is a good thing. Because that will keep The Costners searching for great songs in the meantime. And that is what they like to do best. Well, of course playing sold out gigs and winning the Grote Prijs van Nederland (Holland’s leading band contest) is very nice too. But hey, you can’t play great gigs without great songs, can you?
The Kevin Costners started out as a home recording project in 2004. Actually they didn’t record at home. Stijn, Sjors and Bouke put their gear in a van and drove to an abandoned railway house in the north of France. (The little house on the cover of the CD) There they recorded their first songs and immediately they knew what the The Kevin Costners were about: solid indie pop with strong melodies and soulful beats.
To perform live they were joined by David (replaced by Bas in March 07) ..boards and Rick on bass. After two rehearsals their first gig was at a local band contest in the famous Doornroosje. The Kevin Costners won the Roos van Nijmegen.
Since then The Kevin Costners have earned a great live reputation playing all over Holland and Belgium (2 band members live in Antwerp). They really do not care much where they play as long as there are people that want to hear their songs. Playing a sold out Paradiso or Melkweg (supporting for the Veils and Kula Shaker) or large Dutch festivals is really great, but a late night gig in an obscure harbour bar in Antwerp certainly has its charm too.
Their live performance is very enthusiastic. They clearly enjoy what they do. One journalist wrote: “These guys probably can’t do anything else, if they wanted to. What a passion! What a display of sheer pleasure!”
“Pleasure” was also the key word at the finale of the Grote Prijs. Certainly after their victory was announced. The jury said: “Brilliant songs. Hit material. This band should be signed right now!” Well, that has been taken care of. The famous Dutch indie label Excelsior Recordings signed them up and together with producer Frans Hagenaars a killer debut album has been recorded. It’s called “Come On In”, and it’s out now!.

The Fat of Excellence Ep is an exclusive remix package of unreleased Taster Peter remixes for techno don Umek, berlin supremo Oliver Koletzki and italian kraut-rockers du jour Crimea X. Our "Taster of choice" reworks S Cream to maximum effect keeping the hard techno vibe of the original slovenian mix but adding some twisted rhythm solutions to refresh this monster. While Peter's take on Koletzki's Nascita of the Monsters is all about full moon parties, deep-acid, tons of 303 and delays for a proper futuristic "west-coast flavoured" tech-house winner: massive! Last but not least it's "A Year Later", an unreleased Crimea X tune that Taster Peter got the exclusive chance to remix, indie guitars meets minimal techno, the ultimate intro track per excellence!!!
