. ABOUT
Atlanta's newest, The Killer & The Martyr, have cooked up some, ehem, killer beats, adding a spoonful of gretsch with a dash of drums. International band members, from both Venezuela and Atlanta, bring their own flare of musical roots to the table, creating a sound that makes you want to stand in line for seconds. {our sincere apologies for all of the eating analogies. we're hungry. for new music that is.} here you go. yummmmmmmmmmmm.

The Killer and The Martyr started the show, illuminated in the yellows and violets of the stage lights above. As the music commenced, I sensed that this show would not disappoint. By the third song, I was convinced that the bands' appeal to me was delivered through the ethereal vocal reverb of singer, Christian Haberkern, and distinct accompaniment of keyboardist, Sam Epstein, reminiscent of The Doors at their finest. In fact, at one point, "Riders on the Storm" slipped so easily into my forebrain that the comparison to The Doors became undeniable.

Second up were the men of The Killer & The Martyr. 1960's West coast surfer riffs with well articulated lyrics cruise through almost seemingly 50's style bass playing. What that creates, hard to explain, but extremely tasty. Raw is overused, I'm going to say ... unpasteurized. Oh, it's nutritious but damn, it's grainy.
As a performance, they lacked connection with each other besides the occasional smile cracked between the members. The drummers girlfriend snapped pictures on the side with me (I apologize for cutting in front of you, drummer gf, I am an idiot). To get a full feeling of the band check out "Arrows" on their myspace page. Live, it sold me on the band. They're going to be a staple in the regional circuit, I guarantee.
