   About TheKillMeTrio

This Sax, Bass, and Drums Trio was formed in Brooklyn, NY, December 2005. TheKillMeTrio was originally a joke name created by Shayna Dulberger for a show put on by North Guinea Hills and Matthew Mottel at The Red and Black in Williamsburg. There was so much talk and positive feedback from this one show that the name stuck, the band proceeded to perform in the NYC area and recorded an album of Dulberger's compositions in July 2006. The band continues to perform and regularly lists reviews in their myspace blog, calendar dates in the myspace calendar, indie websites and the All About Jazz calendar. Each musician in TheKillMeTrio performs regularly in different projects. For more info. please read their short bio's below and click on their myspace links in the top friends.

In the words of Darius: "Hello everyone I was asked what my influences are so I thought about it and came to this conclusion. Lets start with Jesus Christ, Job from the bible, Funkadelic, Rick James, Cooper-Moore, Andrew D'Angelo, Cannonball Adderley, Henry Threadgill, Maceo Parker, Spike Lee, Prince, John Zorn, Quincy Jones, Arthur Blythe, Hermen Hesse, Kim Burrell, Pablo Picasso, Denzel Washington, Beethoven, Missy Elliott, Suzi-Lori Parks, Neptunes, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Tom Waits, Rosevelt Towsend Jr., Outkast, Jill Scott, Julie Taymor, Henry David Thoreau, Meshell Ndegeocello, my Momma and Daddy, etc. But most of all it is life that influences me and the mysteries within it. Also every women that has broken my heart and every women that has shown me how to love. Peace out!"

Upon graduating from high school Jason moved to Boston where he studied with Bob Moses, Billy Hart, Steve Lacy, Danilo Perez, George Garzone, Jerry Leake, and Ken Schaphorst. Jason has played with many renown artists including Dave Douglas, Joe Lovano, Jason Moran, Kenny Wheeler, and John Abercrombie. Now residing in New York, Jason is quickly making an impression on the scene with his challenging and creative style. He is a voice to turn your ear toward.

About the Album

TheKillMeTrio released a self titled CD of bustling originals and improvisations. Composed of Dulberger on upright bass, Darius Jones on alto saxophone and Jason Nazary on drums, the album begins quickly with Improvisation, a billowing track with large plucks at the bass met by the quick snare and aching sax. This is a marker of the music to follow, broad tracks of forward jazz. The trio converges and diverges, touching territories from full free jazz groupthink to a calmer, more melodic post-bop, often on the same piece. Citing influences from Fugazi to William Parker, Dulberger and her trio siphon a broad pallet of musical tastes and backgrounds into a cohesive and evolving album.

The wind drifts gently over the plain.
As Fanelli and babies prepare for their game.
The mixture has tension, elasticity is right.
Bubble wand at hand; are we ready for flight?
Fanelli stands downwind, the babies stay up.
I hope its not too big or else it may pop.

ROCKET ENGINE

Feb 14 2007 8:20 AM

Rocket engines burning fuel so fast,
Up into the night sky they blast,
Through the universe the engines whine,
Could it be the end of man and time?
Back on earth the flame of life burns low,
Ev'rywhere is misery and woe,
Pollution kills the air, the land and sea,
Man prepares to meet his destiny. Yeah
