"There is no shortage of bands that think that they can play Blues and rock n roll, but there is a shortage of bands who can do it well - and make it sound fresh and original! The King Bees certainly can!!" - Blues Matters Magazine
A class act, bring your dancin’ shoes! Undiluted blues with singing guitar, dirty blues harp and a gutbucket rhythm section.
The King Bees was formed in January 2008 by Marc Patching. After performing in bands for 20 years he wanted to ‘follow his muse’ and put together a quality blues band. In October 2007 he became runner up guitarist of the year in a competition run by Yamaha and ‘Guitarist’ magazine.
"The best blues band we have EVER had play here!!" – Kontra Roots & Blues Club
Marc enlisted the help of other seasoned professionals to realise his dream. Between them the bees have worked or appeared on the bill with: Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, The Hamsters, Dr. Feelgood, King King (Alan Nimmo), Wishbone Ash, Walter Trout, Zoot Money, Pete Bonas (now with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings), Paul Lamb and the King Snakes, Engine, Phil Hilbourne, John Verity (ex Argent), Reef, Bob Henrit (drummer with The Kinks), Steve Philips (Mark Knofler & The Notting Hillbillies), Mick Grabham (ex Procol Harem), Gywn Ashton, Max Milligan and Cherry Lee Mewis.
“Blindin’!!!” – Shetland Blues Festival
Their style and influences encompass the blues genre. From the early known ‘field’ recordings, through the 40’s and 50’s jump and swing, 60’s physcadelia right up to and including present day artists.
Robert Johnson, BB King, Big Joe Turner, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, J.B. Lenoir, Slim Harpo, Howlin’ Wolf, Albert Collins, Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, John Mayall, Taj Mahall, J.J. Cale, SRV, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Derek Trucks, Eric Bibb, Matt Schofield, Robben Ford, Seasick Steve and Iain Siegal to mention just a few.
Their new album “Weekender” is a selection of covers and self penned songs in a variety of moods and styles. All recorded live in the studio or at one of two gigs. Its available at gigs now or buy it on line from this site (scroll down look left!).
The history of music goes like this: Theres what came before the blues, and what came after.
