Sports, such as football (college and NFL playoffs), basketball (college and NBA after March), NHL, baseball (MLB and college whenever), and soccer (World Cup, EPL and MLS somewhat). Politics, I hate hypocrites of both parties. I haven't been happy with a President since Bush I in Iraq I, but I did vote for Obama. I thought this was funny: "Wanted: Competent, non-messianic statesman to clean up big mess and avoid global disaster(s). Must read newspaper." Clinton deserved to be impeached, but no one died as a result of what he did. All along, Bush wrongly had the intention of leading us into war with Iraq (which was accomplished by misleading the American people), and people did die and are still dying. I did not jump on Junior's bandwagon (unlike many notable Democrats) because he happened to oversee the 9/11 invasion. Anyway, I'm basically libertarian (Barry Goldwater: "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.") I couldn't deal with Republicans when I was in the South because they are too socially conservative, and I can't deal with Democrats in California because they are too fiscally liberal. I see no point in registering Libertarian though, so for now I am technically a Republican. I guess you could say I'm an old-style conservative but without the close-mindedness and bigotry (or tolerance for it). Liberty and egality are good things, but fraternity is a bit too idealistic. Based on a lot of the things I've mentioned, I really supported ..Ron Paul for President and will continue to support his ideas and those who follow them. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
How evil are you?..Music
I like the "alternative" genre: Green Day (American Idiot, but I like the old stuff better), Incubus, Offspring, Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Adema, Disturbed, Goo Goo Dolls, Candlebox, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down. There aren't too many new bands I'm into, but I like Rise Against, Atreyu, and AX7. I listen to radio a lot since I've been traveling for work. I can't afford an iPod, especially with people wanting you to pay for the songs too. I like a somewhat wide range of other stuff, but just because an artist might be in a certain category, that does not mean I like "that kind of music" (you can have a difference of opinion, but don't act like your music is better than mine): Beethoven, Strauss, Schubert (I like some other classical music too, but Mozart is over-rated); Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline (those are the only two somewhat serious country music people I like), David Alan Coe, Kip Ataway; Moby, Eminem (I like very little rap/hip-hop or anything resembling techno).... There's this band called Wreckless Process that emailed me through here and the songs on their profile were good. I don't like bands on my bulletin board, but I thought I'd be nice and mention them here.Movies
This is mostly stream of consciousness, I really couldn't rank most of these: Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail, The Big Lebowski, Chinatown, Lost in Translation, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Airplane!, Saved, Network, Crash, 12 Angry Men (with old Jack Lemon), The Shining, Silence of the Lambs (I actually like the sequel, not the prequel as much), Rosemary's Baby, Skeleton Key, Mars Attacks!, High School High, Scary Movie, A Night in Casablanca, My Little Chickadee, Inherit the Wind, Death and the Maiden, Misery, Citizen Kane, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, Shawshank Redemption, Far From Heaven. I like Heath Ledger, so I liked Brokeback Mountain and Casanova. The headline I had up before, "Look at the world and tell me the pleasures of sanity, " is a quote from a movie called Conspiracy, which is about Nazis, but it was interesting because they were talking about Nietzche.Television
South Park, The Daily Show, the Sopranos, Rome, The Tudors, RealTime with Bill Maher (even though he annoys me sometimes). I like a lot of British shows--the Green Wing, Keeping up Appearances, Bad Girls, Spaced, the Catharine Tate Show, for example. Over the Summer I watched Weeds, the Closer, Beyond the Bull (I love bullriding...guess you have to know me well to understand why), and Knight School ("You guys might as well take those two whistles and make a rectal deposit with them"). I hate bad teeny-bopper soap operas (the OC, One Tree Hill, for example) and garbage dramas like Grey's Anatomy. Don't even mention shows like that to me, or reality TV, unless it's something goofy like the Surreal Life. I usually start liking shows right before they get canceled. Some canceled shows: First Mondays, Daria, Six Feet Under, Win Ben Stein's Money, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, Soap, Fastlane, The Book of Daniel, Judging Amy. I'm not a legal nerd like some people at school. I watch a lot of sports of course, probably too many. I watch movies occasionally. I've been watching some new shows lately. I've gotten into the Discovery Channel, so I'll watch Man vs. Wild and Dangerous Catch.Books
I usually like authors such as Carl Hiaasen and Lawrence Shames. I do read political/historical books sometimes. The last such books were Nothing Like It in the World, about the transcontinental railroad, and Bushworld, by the ever-clever Maureen Dowd. Guess what that is about. ..[Marital Status] figure it out.... [Shoe size] Wouldn't you like to know?.... [Parents still together] yes.... [Siblings] one brother, 19.... Heroes
If I had to pick one, it's William Wilberforce, but I think in general hero-worship is out-dated. There are both admirable things and despicable things about almost everyone. Anybody I can name, like Martin Luther King, Jr., or Thomas Jefferson, you can say some pretty bad things about. Those would be other people I'd like to emulate on their positive aspects though. From watching HBO recently, I've given some thought to John Adams and Thomas More, two attorneys in history who took some difficult stands based on principle. They had their problems too. To stay with the legal profession, Chief Justice George of California took a pretty uncomfortable stand for a Republican. Now for something completely different...that cow Molly B. is pretty cool in a symbolic way (in my pictures and in the answer to the question above about animals). She rose above oppression, and being an animal there weren't any selfish motives except for survival, which is cool. I still don't want to emulate farm animals per se. Hinduism works for some people too, but not really for me. I like Kantian ethics, so that story reminded me of the "yoke of tutelage."You Are 22% Feminine, 78% Masculine You are in touch with your masculine side.

A few other quotes...
I wasn't thrilled about either 2008 candidate, but they're both interesting guys. BHO: "With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested...we did not turn back nor did we falter..." McCain: "Americans deserve more than tolerance from one another. We deserve each other's respect."
I moved this one down because the election's over (not that anyone learned anything): "A great industrial nation is now controlled by its system of credit. We are no longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction & the vote of the majority, but government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." It's a slight paraphrase (edited for length) of Woodrow Wilson expressing regret for agreeing to the federal reserve.
Another MLK one I like: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
This is a quote that actually says something about me. Sometimes I wonder if I would be more popular if I were more of a bad boy: "Few things are harder to put up with than a good example." - Mark Twain
*Note: Don't send me an add request without talking to me. Preferably, have a meaningful profile. I don't add bands unless I know you personally. Btw, it takes a lot longer to know someone personally online.
Personality type: The Questioner (the Six) Questioners are responsible, trustworthy, and value loyalty to family, friends, groups, and causes. Their personalities range broadly from reserved and timid to outspoken and confrontative. How to Get Along with Me * Be direct and clear. * Listen to me carefully. * Don't judge me for my anxiety. * Work things through with me. * Reassure me that everything is OK between us. * Laugh and make jokes with me. * Gently push me toward new experiences. * Try not to overreact to my overreacting. What I Like About Being a Six * being committed and faithful to family and friends * being responsible and hardworking * being compassionate toward others * having intellect and wit * being a nonconformist * confronting danger bravely * being direct and assertive What's Hard About Being a Six * the constant push and pull involved in trying to make up my mind * procrastinating because of fear of failure; having little confidence in myself * fearing being abandoned or taken advantage of * exhausting myself by worrying and scanning for danger * wishing I had a rule book at work so I could do everything right * being too critical of myself when I haven't lived up to my expectations ............................................... I think some of the graphics and so forth describe me all right. That's why I put them there. I mostly joined myspace to re-connect with people. I've realized that I was better off being disconnected from a lot more people than I thought. Or people want to make a clean break from who they used to be or who they used to know. I guess I can be too optimistic about people before I have a reason not to be. That's pretty much how I am. I'll talk to almost anyone for a little while at least. I never really made a concerted effort to meet new people on here, but it seems like it's just happened over time. Oddly, that's the group I seem to hear from more often. Anyway, I'm from Louisiana, the New Orleans area specifically. Yes, it's still there. No, I wasn't there during Katrina, but my family was, and they didn't float away. Enough of that. I left to go to law school. I graduated in May 2007 and passed the bar that July, but it took so long to get the results that I didn't get around to practicing until December 2007. I've mostly done criminal and traffic, so nothing particularly lucrative or impressive yet. It's not a bad occupation though. I put a little bit more background after the "I'd like to Meet" part.

Who I'd like to meet:
I had all this descriptive stuff in here, but just a few guidelines and we'll go from there--judge not, lest you be judged; ask and you shall receive (in the sense that I'm not very good at reading minds, but I try to be a good friend, and that works better with communication); Appreciate, don't playa-hate, congratulate (Adema, not Jesus); A couple other good pointers for getting along with me--write me back (however long it's been/takes), be honest with me and with yourself (I prefer rude honesty to polite B.S.), and expect me to be honest back....If I ever have time, I hope to get involved in some kind of organized athletics or outdoor activity again. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I usually like individual people a little too much (or more than they like me back anyway)...hence the profile song I have/had by Papa Roach (sometimes I change it)..."my weakness is that I care too much." Something I try not to do is bother people, and sometimes that backfires so let me know if I'm not responsive enough. Anyway, if I write you back right away or something, that doesn't mean I'll do it again and expect you to answer 3 times a day or anything. I like to answer because I'd rather hear back than wonder if you got my message and I'm used to IM. Also, if I'm sarcastic and don't seem so kind and gentle, it's just my personality. It doesn't mean that I don't like you. Be sarcastic back and I'll probably think it's funny. .. I created my profile with Myspace Layouts+ And I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser, so it might look better on there. Microsoft is the devil.| Advanced Global Personality Test Results

Thanks Ted, though it's not a seasonal thing. The worst of winter seems to be over so I'm going from early spring here to late summer/early autumn there, mainly to visit my youngest son & his English wife, and my brand new grandson! I will be in England for a month, then home to approaching summer which will be nice!
I can't wait to cuddle the baby - his name is Luca & he's my first grandson though I do have two lovely granddaughters here in Christchurch. Sad that he lives so far away, I'll just have to visit as often as possible...
