A band with a sound unlike anything this side of the galaxy.
In mid 2007, after some financial troubles with an L.A. film school, guitarist David Coffield moved back to his hometown of Kent, OH to enroll in art school. Within a week being home, Coffield approached his childhood best friend, a solid bassist and well rounded musician, Mark Chesnes and instantly the two began collaborating, shaping and recording early version of the songs on a tape deck. Together, they decided on calling the project “The Know Nothings” and after a few posted recordings on myspace.com, they began to get a following.
With a friend on the drums and Coffield temporarily handling the vocals, The Know Nothings played their first show at a house party. After playing a few more shows in Northeast Ohio, The Know Nothings selected Natalie Freedman to take over main vocals. However, due to her college schedule, she was unable to make a full-time commitment and in March of 2008, while at work, Coffield was approached by high school acquaintance Kyle Buckley. After a long conversation, he invited Buckley to come jam with the band. After a run through of The Beatles “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” Buckley’s talent became apparent, and without hesitation he accepted the role as lead vocalist. A few months later, the band finalized the lineup with friend and hard-hitting drummer Eric Hartzell.
From The Know Nothings debut four track EP Silly Thoughts, the songs “Ruby” and “Mr. Hangman” received radio play on 92.3 KROK, 88.9 WSTB, and on Kent State’s Black Squirrel Radio. In January 2009, The Know Nothings completed a full nine song album entitled For Supper. By March, For Supper was officially released and locally sold over 100 copies within the first couple days of release. Because of their frequent appearances in Kent and surrounding Northeast Ohio area, their reputation is growing rapidly.
