I have so many interests I don't even know where to start:
1) Any type of sport, as long as I am playing it, not watching it! I was in the Lingerie Bowl, which is how I tore my Achilles heel last year. I love to rock climb, horseback ride, roller blade and ski.
2) Shopping (what girl doesn't, and have you been downtown?)
3) Cooking (I am recently learning to cook, and oh my what fun it is, cuz you know a sista be HUNGRY!! I know I look like I don't weigh much, but that's just because God gave me good genes. Give me a neckbone, I will suck it dry...LOL)
4) Eating out (for those of you that know me, you know this should be No. 1 right)
5) L.A. Night Life - oh how I love it. There is always something to do. Recently, I have really gotten into spoken word and dance performances. I recently saw Nigger, Wetback, Chink, a play that completely changed my life. It deals with the breaking down of stereotypes that we, as a country, never truly deal with.
Music
My musical interests range from Bon Jovi to The Roots. I listen to everything, except classical or country...although I have heard country songs that I really do like..one was on American Idol the other night;) If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Oldies, like Donny Hathaway, Teddy P....TURN EM OFF! He said it with conviction, didn't he. I would have jumped up and turned off the damn lights the way he sang it!
Movies
Now this is something I take very seriously. I am going to try to list a few of my favorites, but I know I am going to forget some:
1) South Park (the movie, wonderful message, hugely ignored), 2) Memento (pure brilliance), 3) Heat (Al Pacino...what else do you gotta say), 4) School of Rock (your stomach will hurt from laughing), 5) Sliding Doors (SO TRUE), 6) Kill Bill (preferred Vol. 1, but understand the need for story telling in Vol. 2), 7) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(THIS IS LIFE, love is eternal), 8) The Wiz (my favorite movie growing up, I know every word to every scene and every word to every song...BRAND NEW DAY changed my life), 9) My Life Without Me (taught me that life is precious and no matter what you go through, it could ALWAYS be worse, it made me appreciate life) and of COURSE, 10) The Color Purple (I swear, if I had the money, I would re-release it just so the cast could be considered for Oscars)...and that's enough for now. These are SOME my FAVORITES...because it is impossible to have just one favorite movie (in my opinion, there are just too many), but here is a good insight into my psyche;)
Television
Oh my goodness...how much time do you have to list my favorite tv shows...I will try to be brief....these are NOT in order of favorite
BOONDOCKS (absolutely mind numbing hilarious, can't wait for it to come back in OCTOBER..YEAH), 24 (the best damn show on tv. I can't even watch it on tv, I have to get it on netflix so I can watch the entire series all at one time without interruption. The first time I watched the first season from Netflix, I called in sick to work because I simply could not contemplate not finding out WHO THE MOLE WAS...ok, did you just DIE when it was Nina), DESPERATE HOUSWIVES (everyone jump on the bandwagon), FRIENDS (when it was on, yes I know there were no black people on it, but dammit, that show is hilarious, although I just got hip to it from my sister, who works at the WB and got me the dvds for free), GILMORE GIRLS (whoever writes the dialogue, needs the Pulitzer for it), SOUTH PARK (the best cartoon in the world, unbelievably funny yet always a valid message), and last but DEFINITELY not least, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE...Danny was SO ROBBED last year. This year, if Will doesn't win, the fix is in!! I mean, he's freaking Debbie Allen's protege! I also have recently been gifted season tickets to the show, so every Wednesday and Thursday night, I'm at CBS studios watching so you think you can dance, dance, dance, dance.
Books
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho...it WILL change your life. And I know it's gay (really, actually gay), but I am SO INTO E. Lynn Harris' books. They are wonderfully written and extremely visual.
Heroes
1) First of all, my ultimate hero is my mom. She is the most amazing person that I have been lucky enough to meet. 2) My hero is anyone who does not stand for involuntary ignorance and does everything they can to eradicate it. 3) Anyone who sees the good in people or dire situations. 4) Anyone who thinks of others before themselves. 5) Anyone who takes life by the horns and rides that beast into the ground. 6) Anyone who loves more than they hate. 7) Anyone who unselfishly helps others and doesn't expect or want anything in return. 8) Anyone who knows they have to make a change for the world to change!
"Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you have never been hurt.
Dance like no one's watching!!!"
About me: ****************************I just want to thank all the people who were in my corner during "Charm School". Everything about the show WAS NOT what I was told. To clear something up, I DO HAVE A TORN ACHILLES HEEL. If you google that type of injury, you will all see why it was extremely painful for me to climb for 2 miles. Plus, they did not feed us before they sent us out there, so I couldn't take my pain medicine. The reason I needed a can opener was because the only thing available for us to eat IMMEDIATELY (so I could take my pain medicine) was some beef stew. The next day, when I did the obstacle course, I ate a full breakfast and took TWO extra strength pain pills. I WAS NOT FAKING, and I just want to thank all of my true fans (which really is most of you) for supporting me and knowing that VH-1 edited the show to make it much more dramatic than it really was. There is a lot more I could say about the show, but I just wanted to clear up this misunderstanding, as well as I keep getting emails asking me about it. Hopefully this clears everything up for everyone************
I also want to give out mad, mad crazy thanks to those of you that have written me with encouraging words, and overall, just having a sista's back, I truly appreciate it. I want to send an extra special shout out to the fan that actually named her newborn after me. I'm truly honored.*******************
I learned a lot about who I am when I did Flavor of Love. I even learned that I will never "sell out", not even for my career. What I mean by that, to sum it all up, is that everything you saw about me on TV was REAL. I was not ACTING at all, that was just me. I wasn't going to sleep with Flav or any of the producers to stay on the show or to get ahead. I don't roll like that. I believe I am talented and my talent will get me to where I need to go with my career. FYI to everyone that keeps asking....YES, I really wanted to kick New York's AZZ AND I really wanted to get to know Flav. Yes, I am an actress/model, so the exposure was a definite added bonus, but I was not JUST DOING it for TV, like a lot of the other girls on the show.*****************
I am on myspace to network with other people in "the biz" and to simply make new, regular, non-superficial, real, down-to-earth friends. I am an actress, host and model, but also work as a paralegal (so I do have a brain:). Originally, I'm a true thespian (theatre actress). All you fellow thespians, know exactly what I am talking about.***********
Once again, I want to thank all the people who sent me emails full of kind words and support, because at times when I wanted to quit, your e-mails saved me and convinced me that I can make it and that I will make it. To all of my fans, I will never forget you. If you sent me an email, I will respond. It may take over a month or so, but I PROMISE, I will respond. Between acting, modeling, hosting, and my real job, I don't get much time to get on myspace to answer people. And then when I do, I have over 100 emails a day...and I try to respond to everyone. That takes a really long time, especially the days that I don't even have time to jump on myspace. There have periods of time when I don't get on myspace for over a month, so do the math:) So for everyone sending me emails stating they are mad at me for not responding, please, please, please give me a little bit of a break, and just know that I will get to you as soon as I possibly can. Also know that I appreciate every email that I am sent. The fact that you took time out of your day to say hello to me or to encourage me, means the absolute most to me. Also, I would like to point out that most of the celebrities on myspace have their "interns" or their "managers" answering their myspace emails, while I do it ALL MYSELF, as I feel you guys deserve to hear from ME, not my representative.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO HOST A PARTY, SCHEDULE A SHOOT OR CAST ME, PLEASE DO NOT HESISTATE TO EMAIL ME AND PUT "BUSINESS" IN THE SUBJECT LINE. THANKS!!!
***************************************************************Everyone, please support one of my best friends, Joy Bowman. She is an African-American woman and she is a novelist. She has written a horror novel. Support her and pick it up, it isn't expensive. Read it and love it as I did...here is the link to the book. Cut and paste it into your address line. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0595272738/sr=8-6/qid=1155597409/ref=sr_1_6/103-3196235-8671858?ie=UTF8
