About me: What is “ the lab “?
The Lab is a cost free/non profit studio that supports a community of musicians in Shanghai, with an emphasis on DJ culture, local MC’s and live music. The creators and originators of soulful music are all welcome, with a specific emphasis on attracting local music lovers.
Who is involved?
The Lab was founded by two Shanghai DJ’s, V-Nutz ( aka Gary Wang Dongqing ) and Fortune ( aka Fu Jun ). V-Nutz is the first DMC China Champion and continues to organize the DMC DJ Championship China Finals annually, and takes the winner to London each year for the world finals. He is a resident DJ responsible for Shanghai’s hip hop Thursday nite’s at the Pegasus club and the first regular funk night at Mural. V-Nutz is also a event producer and through Organic Soul has brought over world renowned DJ’s such as Kid Koala, Shortkut, Roc Raida, J-Smoke, Dopey, Kentaro, Roli Rho and Revolution (etc ) to perform in Shanghai and Beijing. Fortune has placed 2nd and 3rd at the DMC China Championships, is also a founding member of Amino Soul productions and is a resident DJ at Pegasus. Fortune is an up and coming top China turntablist. Others involved in getting The Lab going include the Amino Soul crew, Japanese musician Kuli and DJ Shige, Beatmaker Sickstar and local DJ’s Big One and L-J.
What’s happenin at the lab?
Free weekly DJ, MC, Band events – notice will be made available by email( if registered ) and on the website. The space is open free to the public mid week for DJ practice, lessons and jamming with live musicians. The space can also be rented out for private events.
How can I get involved?
Musicians, DJ’s, MC’s, graf artists, and other interested can stop by and utilize the space during the week according to the provided schedule. Attending events to be held weekly or providing content for the website are great ways to support the scene. If you have any ideas or events that you would like to organize or help organize existing events, or make a donation, feel free to contact DJ V-Nutz,Fortune, or Kyle.

Sweet soul, raw funk, old school, golden era and the freshest hip-hop will be provided by rotating residents Fortune, V-Nutz, HBD, Shige and The Drunkmonk, with guest DJs and MCs each week.
