Reading, singing, Ancient Egypt, London - heck all of England, playing the bass, writing lyrics, road trips, live music, Zelda, swimming, the beach, museums and spending time with my son (saved the best for last).
Potter Puppet Pals in The Mysterious Ticking Noise:
Me singing when I was 21 years old.
Music
Favorite artists include Scissor Sisters (my FAVORITE BAND), Wilson Phillips, Kelly Clarkson, Natalie Merchant, Evanescence, Howie Day, Christina Aguilera, Live, 80's music and some 90's music.
Scissor Sisters - Kiss You Off
Movies
First, all time favorite 80's movie, the one where I know ALL the songs from the soundtrack (and wore out countless cassette copies before CDs), XANADU.
I like to be scared. I love Horror & Thriller movies, but will take a comedy as well. British comedies are my favorite. I just don't get into some of the rubbish considered comedies in the US. Check out Shaun of the Dead for a great Romantic Comedy... with Zombies. I will also go for some GOOD action movies and romantic comedies (I love Love, Actually). I have found that Johnny Depp at Captain Jack Sparrow such fun to watch.
Television
There are some shows I really enjoy. House, Lost, Bones, Sopranos, Dexter, Ghost Hunters, Supernatural, Murder She Wrote reruns, Poirot, Monty Pythons Flying Cirus, The Office (both British & American versions), Charmed, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Family Guy, Animaniacs, Crystal Maze and Wonderfalls. BBC The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Universe. And any TV show which has Scissor Sisters as a featured guest.
There used to be a show on BBC called Crystal Maze, I wonder if that's still around...
Best Commercial EVER!
The Office
Books
I love to read. JK Rowling (Harry Potter, I'm so addicted!! I CRIED at the last book, I will bow down to the woman should I ever be fortunate enough to meet her). Stephen King. Anne Rice. Brian Lumley (Necroscope Books are amazing). John Saul. Dean R Koontz. Agatha Christie. Sherlock Holmes. Dan Brown. If it can scare me or is a mystery, I want it. I also listen to books on tape. Harry Potter, Anne Rice, Stephen King, John Saul, Agatha Christie, it helps me sleep.
I also love to read about Ancient Egypt. Will take suggestions for any good books about Ancient Egypt.
Heroes
Don't have any. To call someone your hero, I believe, puts a lot of pressure on that person/memory of that person to always live up to a certain expectation. I admire some people, but because they are human, there is the possibility that they can/will/have done things I do not/would not approve of. There for, I have no heroes.
Gosh, where to start.
At the time I am writing this, I am 31 years old. I have a n 8 year old son Andrew who is the light in my day. We are both in school, he is in third grade and I'm a Sophomore/Junior at the University of Maine, however I am currently studying abroad in Egypt. More below....
I enjoy karaoke, however I am so busy with school I don't go out as often as I used to. I have been a karaoke DJ, which was great fun, however responsibilities to school and Andrew means that I have hung up my DJ mic (so stop asking! lol). My first solo karaoke show was at a bar called the Spectrum which closed down in Jan 2005. I then ran a karaoke show at Karma from July 2005 through June 2006. From July 2006 through December 2006, I ran the karaoke show at Club Detour in Brewer. That makes 3 karaoke shows at 3 bars, which are no longer in operation. It's not my fault, really! I really enjoyed running the show. I had so many great people who come out who are fun, nice, sweet and talented. I miss them all.
At this time in my life, I am content. My life could use improving (really, whose couldn't), but things are better than they could have and have been. I have some close friends (not many), a great child, a wonderful mom (who watches the great child when I need to work, or want to play), a hard earned GPA of 3.79, and a green car. Actually, the car itself is silver... by green I mean it's a hybrid. A Toyota Prius, needless to say, I love my car! I only have to pay on it for another 4 years.
My absolute best friend I have ever had, and could ever want, is Benny. I swear, we each have half of the others brain. We know what the other is thinking a lot, agree about most things, and I trust him completely. It is funny, we are so similar that sometimes people think we are married (uh, no, ewww). Lately, as I have spoken to him about my plans to relocate to the UK once I've finished my schooling, he has expressed interest to move over as well. Right now, the plan is that he's going over to earn his Doctorate, and he'll just stay there and setup a flat for us to share (while we get situated) when I move over. Right now, we usually hang out at his place or mine, and love to go on road trips together. We even have some road trip rules, so to speak. Those are:
1. Once on the interstate, we must play The Booty Song by Kendall.
3. If driving to Boston, must stop at Salem MA on the way back (and try not to get lost).
4. Singing in the car is mandatory. No exceptions.
5. Take my car, it saves so much on gas... poor Benny, he has Prius envy.
6. When in Boston, take the T to The Alley, a gay bar where more often than not, I'm the ONLY WOMAN THERE! Each time we go, the employees/patrons wonder if we know where we are. Trust us, we do.
7. Have fun.
My other best friend is Martha. When we first met during my freshman year in high school, she hated me. After I wormed my way into her good graces (I knew we would be friends, she really didn't have much of a choice, besides, I did her math homework), we became very close. She had been married for over 10 years to Mark and has 3 awesome boys, Anthony, Eric & Ryan.
There is so much that I've done, seen and want to do. I lived in London England when I was 14 years old, so I can now adopt a British accent when needed. I've been in (and out of) love. I've been to Paris, it was ok, I like London much better. I've met one of my favorite authors, Brian Lumley. I collect Ancient Egypt statues and books. I even have a tattoo of the Egyptian Hieroglyph for Musician on my back shoulder.
I am currently learning to play the Bass. I really love playing. I have this beautiful red fretless bass which I play for a couple of hours at a time, without even realizing it. Right now I am working on the following songs: Broken Wings by Mister Mr. Crush by Jennifer Paige. In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel. Stay & I Do by Lisa Loeb. Voices Carry by til Tuesday. Closer To Fine by Indigo Girls. You & I Both by Jason Mraz. As you can see, its an interesting mix of songs. I've also been writing down some lyrics (mostly fragments, pieces without a puzzle yet). Benny thinks that we should be able to perform in public at an open mic night or such eventually. We have a set list all ready, I'm just still working on being able to sing and play at the same time.
I LOVE all things Ancient Egypt. I find the culture, art, architecture, and amazing history fascinating. Due to this fascination and love of the culture, I have decided to make it my career. Those plans are detailed below. I have multiple books and DVD's on the subject, as well as papyrus art and small statues. My tattoo is the hieroglyphic symbol for musician and I am thinking of getting another (outside of my Scissor Sisters tattoo).
About school. I am a full time student at the University of Maine, and my major is Anthropology with a focus on Archaeology. Right now, though, I am studying Egyptology and the Arabic language at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. How exciting is that?!?! Once I have my degree, I'm moving out to Maine to pursue a Masters in Egyptology then work on a PhD. Eventually, I plan to move over (for good) to the UK. As for my future plans, I'm so excited. My end goal is to spend some time in Egypt working on digs, then move to London and work in the British Museum. The way I have it calculated now, I won't be reaching that far until I'm about 40-45 years old. Its a long process, but one I am prepared for. It has taken me years to finally decide what I wanted out of this life.
Lastly, I'm learning to speak German. I'm still at the beginner level, however I believe that as long as I continue to study it as much as I have been, I shall become proficient in German within a couple of years.
Guten Tag!
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet other people who have similar interests as myself.
Side Note: Due to the increase of friend requests from people who seem to think that I want a free ipod, or some other such nonsense, I have changed the friends settings on my page. In order to request my myspace friendship, you would either need to know my email address or last name. If you don't know either, but we do know each other, send me a message. The same goes if we have lots in common and you want to friend me. However, if you're trying to spam me, don't bother. I never respond, and it's just a waste of my time and yours.
The roads are always the worst in Dixmont, that's why I got done working in Brewer when I moved to Troy. There's no way I would drive those roads everyday in the winter. Glad you made it home safe and sound. Both of my kids and one of their girlfriends and her two kids were here for supper last night and by the time they left it was raining, turning to snow. They made it home safe and sound too!
