The Lamb Sessions are informal gatherings of like-minded folk who simply enjoy making music together. All levels are catered for; new faces and visitors are very welcome and participation is encouraged from everyone present.
Performances range from quiet, sensitive solo pieces where the audience stay respectfully quiet throughout, to wild and raucous all inclusive rants where, if you can hear yourself play or sing, you are doing well!
The character of the session changes week on week depending on the mix of musicians present and this ads an interesting dynamic all of its own.
Many of the performances are in essence jam sessions and as such some parts work better than others... occasionally something absolutely sublime happens and of course, just occasionally, there is an absolute train wreck.... but no one minds and it all adds to the fun.
This sums up the character of the evening... Drop In, Chill Out, Make Music and Have a Great Time.
Hopefully, a little of the great craic of this wonderful local session can be gleaned from the entries on this site. Recordings are taken from a single mic in the centre of the room, so the results are not polished!... but at least give a flavour of what goes on.
Many of the tunes take a few bars to develop so when listening to the offerings, taking the time to listen to more than the first few seconds of a song or tune may be worthwhile.
Of course... there is no substitute for actually being there... so if you are local to Andover, Hamphire UK, drop in sometime.
Many thanks must go to the landlord of the Lamb Inn for hosting the session and to Marion and Dave for organising everyone and making sure that the evenings are so much fun.
Hi folks--well wrote to Trevor and he said it was an ususual but fun evening...so maybe he will come along again...We are meeting again soon so did not scare him too much!
Tweets....birthday girl tomorrow..arghhhhh!
Will come again soon maybe when Ade and Peter are going again although you are all very friendly so could come alone...X
Another great Lamb Session at the Harvest Home for the Whitchurch Folk Festival Reunion II this afternoon. I certainly enjoyed it and a good time was had by all.
What an absolutely brilliant 3rd anniversary celebration we had at The Lamb Session last night! So many talented musicians and singers, and the "birthday" cake was lovely too.
My mother-in-law on her first visit to the session was absolutely enthralled and delighted at the quality of the session, she enjoyed it immensely and has asked me to say a big thank you to Marion and to all who took part!

We are looking forward to seeing our friends next weekend (10th to 12th July) at Roger's Rant - a Dorset celebration of traditional & contemporary folk music, song and dance. There will be some of the best of local amateur singers and musicians as well as some from further afield. There is also the opportunity for aspiring singers and musicians to have a go in a friendly atmosphere at the Sports Club. The Village Hall will be used for the dance workshops on Saturday & Sunday afternoons, with a Ceilidh on Saturday evening.

This years festival is headlined by Billy Bragg (Friday), Seth Lakeman (Sunday) and Peatbog Faeries (Saturday) with many more top artists also performing incl the award winning The Demon Barbers.
Dear Friends, Thank you for accepting our friendship. Yes, our two sessions seem to be very similar - there is indeed one picture that might have been taken at our session and venue! Steve with the harp looks a little like our host who sometimes joins in with his "free jazz harp" ;-) We do plan to add some more photos and some music by and by. Warm wishes from here to there, Kerstin - The Leipzig Session
