Our debut record, "Avoid Lurks", recorded by the amazing Dave Hornbeck at US/UK (http://www.myspace.com/usukstudios) studios in Vegas has finally been released!
Here's the link to buy it:
It's also now available on iTunes... just type our album "Avoid Lurks" into the search bar, and have a mid-afternoon download PARTY! (but after you download you should really go to CD Baby and buy the actual CD... Original Recipe worked his guts out on the album layout.)
Here's the review from Las Vegas Weekly:
The Lurks!
Avoid Lurks
Rough as the low-bit-rate, MySpace-ripped, live version of “Dinner for a Dog” I’ve had on my iPod for the past year sounds, it was with some trepidation that I cued up the studio version that leads off The Lurks’ new debut disc. Because, in large part, what appeals to me about the song, beyond its spry melody and clever lyrics, is its distinct lack of polish.
Not to worry. The first cut on Avoid Lurks—and the rest of the nine-track, 25-minute bar-punk affair, for that matter—comes off appropriately raw. Quint Olsen’s voice is still gritty as emery, and the trio’s instrumentation retains that fresh, did-it-in-one-take quality (check the endearingly tremulous harmonica solo midway through “Dinner” for proof). There’s even an awesomely rugged cover of The Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen a Face,” done in total seriousness, apart from the “No. 9” intro bit.
If you’ve never seen the band at the Double Down or Bunkhouse, Avoid will give you a true idea you’re missing; if you’re already a regular, it’ll bring the Lurks experience into your living room without waking up the neighbors.

Here's the review from City Life:
The Lurks!
Avoid Lurks (self-released)
It took exactly the span of The Lurks! 25-minute Avoid Lurks to drive from their CD release show at Divebar to my driveway in Boulder City. Perfect length; if this thing went on for any longer, it wouldn't be the kind of album you listen to over and over again -- and I mean over and over. Listened to it on the drive. Then when I got home. Then I woke up with the opener "Dinner for a Dog," stuck in my head. Listened more. All weekend. Nothing else. Likely listening as you read this.
It's nine balls-to-the-wall country and punk-influenced rock 'n' roll jams, much like The Supersuckers (even with the lead guitar parts). But unlike The Supersuckers, singer Quint Olsen exudes a certain modest poignancy, while still having a good time -- kinda like The Descendents, or like A.M.-era Wilco on speed.
Your girlfriends may tell you otherwise, but listen to me. Do not avoid lurks.

VEGAS STAR BOOKINGS IS ALL ABOUT MONEY, NOT THE LOCAL SCENE!
I’m not sure how many of you have heard of Vegas Star Bookings but I wish I had before the D.I. show at Cheyenne Saloon Saturday night. Some punk rock show. Our band, Lord Stymies Horde was scheduled to open the show but after we got our equipment set up and were about 2 minutes from starting our set, this chick from Vegas Star Bookings tells us we can’t play because we didn’t sell enough tickets. Meanwhile about 20 of our friends were outside waiting to come in and drink all night long. We tried explaining that to her along with the fact that the other bands we are members of have played there many times and made a lot of money for them. She made it clear that if we did not pay the equivalent of the cost of 30 tickets ($300) we would have to break down our stuff and leave. PAY TO PLAY? At the Cheyenne Saloon? You’ve got to be kidding me. They think we don’t know a squeeze play when we see it? Better yet, does the management at the Cheyenne Saloon know that Vegas Star Bookings turned away 20 paying customers because we wouldn‘t pay to play? That’s real good business sense. When will these hack promoters learn: This is Vegas, not L.A. Do they even know how many punk shows they were competing against that night? Probably not since the word “punk” isn’t even mentioned on they’re web page. They should do us all a favor and leave the punk shows to the punk promoters. Vegas Star Bookings is a parasite feeding on our scene and their greed has burned the bridge to any possibility of future shows with Lord Stymies Horde, Battle Born or Guilty by Association. ATTENTION LAS VEGAS PUNK AND HARDCORE BANDS: If your band has experienced something similar with Vegas Star Bookings, we would LOVE to hear all about it. Please leave us a comment and repost this message to as many local bands as you can and most of all BOYCOTT VEGAS STAR BOOKINGS. GET “PAY TO PLAY” PROMOTERS OUT OF LAS VEGAS.
