The LAs have managed to sidestep most passing fads; they’ve never been part of a scene and have almost single-mindedly avoided comparison with any better known bands; Its probably why the LAs have arrived at a sound which is very much their own. the current sound being guitar based indie-rock with a slightly retro flavour.
Formed five years ago around the nucleus of Wiz, Tom and Nik early versions of the band sported acoustic guitars and at one point keyboards and a five piece horn section. The influence of jazz svengali and part-time genius Ant Small can still be heard on live favourites like the psychedelic wig-out Chemical Girl but, with the departure of Ant song writing duties fell firmly on undiscovered poet laureate, Wiz and the band developed a harder, rockier edge. Around this time the band were filmed in a live performance for a documentary which later appeared on TV on the Discovery Channel.

On stage, lead singer Tom rips through original material and the odd Who cover with equal aplomb whilst guitarist, Clive spanks his ES-335 as if it has caused him some personal affront. The band have more ex- drummers than Spinal Tap including Big Jim Cantrill who left to pursue successful election as a local Tory councillor. The position has been filled for the past few years by Matt Ingham who, even on the crunching crowd pleaser Highway shoes manages to keep his head whilst others are losing theirs. Following Niks departure some 18 months ago new boy, Rick has taken up bass playing duties and has stamped his personality on band favourites old and new, check out the Dr Who style intro to Snakes and Ladders for proof.
